Now I am going to share some never seen before photos that I took 5 years ago. This is in the Pacific, sailing at night on the way back from Catalina island, a dozen or so dolphins kept us company for an hour as they were surfing the bow wake and generally having a great time playing with a trimaran. The water was glassy clear and so you are seeing them mostly underwater.

flyinghigh, initially i thought ric came across a lil loopy but then when he could substantiate his claims, he paints a very different picture.

i'm sure some seaworlds take care of their dolphins, they are big business after all, but it isn't their home and they do need x amount of spcae to truly thrive. dolphins in captivity tend to get ulcers due to stress.

remember a dolphins' smile doesn't necessarily mean they are happy, that is just their features.

kurt - those are absolutely lovely! now that is a real dolphin show!!

I am very fortunate to have seen interesting things and got photos. Those will be on my site eventually. I pulled these from the archive just for your thread though, since they are relevent to it.

when I was in the Bahamas, they sold "whaler meat" which I learned was dolphins. Really grossed me out. Tat and the thought about the food chain did concern me. Do people understand this? Well it was at a bar that it was served, so I imagine lots of drunk people ordering it

I've seen documentary's about the slaughter of dolphins and believe me- it makes me sad. And not just because my avatar is a dolphin. As a human being I find it sad and disgusting what the Japanese do

today i watched it again with my brother and dad. my brother has such a soft spot for animals/mamals - this infuriated him and he says mankind is so sick that we deserve to be destroyed. i'm sure mother nature will strike back one day.

in the doccie you see a dolphine, in the wild, blow a bubble of sorts and play with it.

if you love the dolphins, which i do and sea turtles; read about the mass die offs in the gulf from the bp spill. it is horrific.

The cove won the Oscar in 2009. I watched it then. Yeah pretty awful. I eat meat, but cruelty to these animals is just mind blowing. I have no idea what kind of person can do this stuff.

Then again, I don't feel that way about chickens or cows. I don't want them mistreated, but I do want to eat them after they die without knowing its going to happen.

    Hypocritical? You bet.
