Seems to me the GB have opened themselves up to outside ridicule- you see, they have thrown down the guantlet to all of Christendom- we're the F&DS and you're not!!-- as soon as it's officially in the WT, the offers of public interviews will come rolling in for the GB. - and what an opportunity to witness for Jehovah's Kingdom on radio & TV! They can't turn that offer down- or can they?
it must be official , wikipedia says so--
Until late 2012, the Governing Body described itself as the representative[51][64] and "spokesman" for God's "faithful and discreet slave class" (the approximately 11,800 remaining anointed Jehovah's Witnesses) who are collectively said to be God's "prophet"[65] and "channel for new spiritual light".[66][67] At the 2012 Annual Meeting of the Watch Tower Society, the "faithful and discreet slave" was defined as referring to the Governing Body only and the terms are now synonymous.[68] The Governing Body is said to provide "spiritual food" for Jehovah's Witnesses worldwide.[69][70][71]
In answer to the question in the OP Thread Title, "No. And not just no, but Hell No!"
I love the WTBTS's weasely, " "The evidence points to the following conclusion ..."
My question whenever they trot out the word "evidence" is always the same: "What evidence?"
The answer is always the same ..... SILENCE ....
They never, and I mean NEVER, provide any real evidence. They have learned that they can use the word "evidence" and it is enough to fool the masses of JW's into thinking there was actually some real evidence provided.
Crazy.
Even if you accept the claim that the faithful and discrete slave was appointed in 1919, despite there being not a single bit of evidence, you have to face the fact that those men are all dead. Since the reasoning book teaches that apostolic succession is "not a Biblical teaching", then once those men all died there would be no way for other men to come in and replace them. The governing body is merely a group of men making false claims about themselves that are contrary to their own doctines.
Time table:
1.William Miller. Amateur bible sleuth. Predicted a definite date for Christ's 2nd Advent. He failed. Twice.
2.Over eager Adventists continued in Miller's footsteps. Predicted dates. Got them wrong.
3.Ellen White switched gears. She resorted to direct communication with Jehovah. Her Adventist writings formed the basis for continued Adventism.
4.Charles Taze Russell invited Adventists to teach him what date setting was all about.
5.Russell did what Miller did using similar methods of boot-strap logic.
6.Russell's wife did what Ellen White did. She used the "faithful and wise servant" scripture to justify direct communication to Jehovah.
7.The soon-to-be Doctrine of the Faithful and Discreet Slave was born. It was to become a staple of Judge Rutherford and all GB leaders thereafter.
In other words, using scripture was a failure. Demonstrably because using scripture led to false understandings and wrong dates.
But, using the FDS doctrine was a failure as well. It led to more date-setting and outright falsifiable disproof.
The point of saying all this is to force the conclusion that there IS NO CRITERIA for FDS and no proof. It is all made up by Maria Russell.
When this group work together as the Governing Body, they act as "the faithful and discreet slave.""
Yeah, but what about when they are NOT working together but rather vying for bettering their own position among their peers (just like most Elders)?
What are they then?
