MIAMI - A bus carrying 32 members of a church group hit a concrete overpass at Miami International Airport after the driver got lost, killing two elderly people on board and leaving three others critically injured, officials said Saturday.

The large, white bus was too tall for the 8-foot-6-inch entrance to the arrivals area, said airport spokesman Greg Chin. Buses are supposed to go through the departures area, which has a higher ceiling, he said.

Chin said the passengers told him they were part of a group of Jehovah's Witnesses headed to West Palm Beach. Police said in a news release that the group had chartered the bus to take them to a church convention there-

I heard about this on the radio, did not know it was JW's. Pretty sad.

That accident certainly casts a pall over that assembly this weekend--

This will deserve some investigation - what on Earth were they doing with a tour bus driver who did not know how to navigate the airport?

Could it have been one of those JW internally organized travel specials?

Let's have some dignity and not use this to attack JW believers. This is a tragedy, no matter your faith.

That is quite correct, of course - but I for one will be on the lookout to see if this was precipitated by any sort of bad organizational effort by a JW group. It could of course be nothing but a sad, tragic accident. Maybe I am just thinking that it seems eerily similar to the African accident on the way to an assembly a few days back.

I gotta agree with James Woods here. Not at all attacking the JW's but at the same time it sounds like whoever organised this tour bus didn't properly think the details through... tragic.

This reminds of the Nigerian accident last month. Many JWs were overloaded and lorry hit a hard a rock or something like that.

Well, what the friends and family members of these victims need more than anything is spiritual food and encouragement. So, please do not send meals, or spend your money on cards or flowers as these things are only material and cannot ease their grief. Also, please do not send any money to help them in this time of pain and suffering as money is the root of all sorts of injurious things. Send your contributions to the WTBTS for the "worldwide work" and then pick up your magazines from the literature counter and send the surviving friends and family your back issues or WT's and AWAKE! to comfort them and remind them of the hope they have in Christ Jesus and the ressurrection. You may include a small note tactfully informing the grieving family members that while the publications are free of charge, we do accept donations for the worldwide preaching work.
