What a great life he had. I heard him play live 3 times.

His jazz was unique. Crisp. Large chords with his big hands. Never took you too far out into avant garde territory. I never felt I had to work hard to appreciate Brubeck. Perfect blend of body and mind.

He "took six" at a good ripe age.

You know, I never really enjoyed his type of jazz. I tried to get into it but it wasn't my taste.

I was saddened and suprised to hear this.

He was just touring last summer and playing a nice venue close by and I missed it. :-( He had a great PBS interview and I saw for the first time, what a great personlity he had . Also his gift of not needing to read music . He was a charming, talented, engaging man , very involed in his belief system too.

There will come a time when all the legends have gone. Can you think of any young musicians now that we will think about the same way 50, 60, or 70 years from now?

My Dad had "Time Further Out" on vinyl and I listened to it many times as a kid. Dave's style was the only type of jazz I could ever get into.

Vince Guaraldi (Peanuts theme) and Gerry Mulligan (Age of Steam) where right up there with Dave in that great style.
