Somebody just recently uploaded Bart Ehrman's early christianity lectures onto YouTube, I would suggest anyone interested in this topic to check it out. His lectures start from the completion of the NT and end at 325 Nicene counsel. Ehrman is one of THE authorities on the subject and a great teacher.
Why did the Early Church Accept the Four NT Gospels and Reject the Gnostic Gospels?

CA- Look up Jewish beliefs in the Messiah and compare to Paul's version, that is why the early Jews who did follow Jesus seperated from Pauline anti_Torah theology.

He is an authority. And a great teacher. And...wrong.

What in particular is he wrong about? And have you read Misquoting Jesus?

Yeah...they were wrong. They were expecting a political leader to save them from the Romans. They are STILL looking for a political leader. And we have a record of the Jews that left the church in the NT, and why they left.

To be intellectually honest and fair, here is a well done debate between Ehrman and William Lane Craig. It's not about the Gnostics, but it is about the historicity of Jesus' resurrection. It's 12 videos long, so I'll just post the first 2. Both sides make great points:

Yeah what a bunch of whinners those Jews were, how dare they want Rome off their backs

Well, I am not a Bart Ehrman apologist, but I have read his book and agree with many of his points on the inspiration or presuppositions made about the bible. That video you just posted really doesn't touch the entire subject of the book and just relegates everything to a book Dan Wallace wrote. Here is a debate between this scholar Dan Wallace and Bart Ehrman. Ehrman argues against Christian foundamentalism, not the Christian faith.

I'm not saying that the Jews were out of place for wanting that. But their expectations didn't match with their own scripture. Much of what they said and did didn't match with the Torah. Their rules and regulations were much like the JWs. JWs are fair in things that they want as well. They're just not going to get them. Things aren't going to work out the way they are expecting.

Of course you would. I probably would too if I hadn't read opposing views as well debunking his claims. His arguments are absolutely one sided.
