The short answer: IT'S A CULT!
Hi Terry
When I was pioneering in the mid 1970's I was recruited by the Toronto Bethel to work as a camera man on the Societies TV show called "The Bibles View". It was shot at a local TV station that provided free air time for some religious programming. 3 brothers would sit around a table discussing various topics. It ran for a few seasons. I did eventually meet all the Bethel heavies as they would often show up to watch the taping.

I had a family member who worked at the Radio Station in the 40s and 50s. I was hoping the Shortwave program would be enlarged ( there was talk about it) so I went to classes and studied to get my Ham operators license. However some 3rd world dictators thought the entire WT shortwave system was a CIA plot..so the shortwave thing got wound down.
I remember this subject tossed around at Bethel in the mid-late 70s regarding TV, and if I remember correctly the GB was split on it. Knorr, and the two Franzes were for it.
I was told some GB thought it would get them lumped in with TV preachers and "Jesus went door to door!!".
At the time I thought to myself ...Jesus also wore sandals and had a beard..........but as always..... I kept my mouth shut.
Tv ministries are interesting, powerful, exciting, lively.
jWs are not. It would be the most boring tV ever!
The average jehovah`s witness has no idea what the official teaching was 5-10 years ago , it`s what is being taught now that counts "new light"
Is it any wonder they dont want to engage with people who know about their religion ? Of course tv would just expose them even more .

Going on TV would not waste everyone's time. You could simply have a crew of people working the studio, record the message, and put it on the air. After that, people would have time to read or do other things that could actually develop one's soul. To the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger, it is treif for the witlesses to have this kind of free time and to not waste their money on gas to deliver the message. So they require each person to do the work in the most inefficient way possible so they don't have any time or money.
They don't dare expose their ideas to public scrutiny in an open forum.... it would be a disaster.
The guy doing sign language in the little upper right corner on the TV screen would get all of the fan mail
It be a major embarrassment for them now! All that "old light" recorded for posterity.
Terry I too remember that strange old dude Gene Scott. I was working a 2nd shift in 1983-85 and when I would get home at 11:45 pm, his show would be on for the next few hours. Even though it was against JW rules to watch this stuff, I found it interesting and humorous how this old guy would sit back in a chair and smoke cigars and yell for folks to send him money. It was great entertainment.
