Cow urine pushed as health cure in India

Hindu nationalists in India have launched a marketing exercise to promote cow's urine as a health cure.

They say the urine, being sold for 30p a bottle, can be used for ailments ranging from liver disease to obesity and even cancer.
    ...

As I see this as an opportunity for shameless self promotion... I would like to point out the bumper sticker on my car: "Religion stops a thinking mind" (A spoof on the abortion bumper sticker)

My grandmother used to wipe her face with the baby's wet diaper. Gave her beautiful skin. Supposed to kill bacteria.

Don't know if this is true, she's been dead along time.

Don't they include cow's urine in some beauty products? I mean, there are some pretty gross ingredients in some of those "skin creams" and even makeup, sick. But, then again, if it works, who cares?

Scientists have found that the old folk cure of pouring urine into an ear to stop an earache works and is scientific because the urine contains ureic acid which dissolves ear wax etc. So don't laugh too soon and keep an open mind. Stranger things have proved factual.

Leaches! Leaches! Get your fresh juicy leaches!

Yeah, doctors are using leaches again - only this time to promote blood flow in reattached limbs.

BTW... I'm still not buying the hole "cow urine is good for you" theory.

This reminds me of a program I saw that featured some people who drank their own urine thinking that it was good for them. BLEACK!!!!

Urine contains substances that can be useful. For example:

"Premarin (r) is a conjugated estrogen product extracted from pregnant mare's urine. It is manufactured by Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories, Inc., and is most commonly prescribed for estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) to relieve hormonal deficiency symptoms associated with menopause or hysterectomy. More recently, it has been prescribed to help prevent osteoporosis and heart disease. Premarin is the most widely used ERT drug, marketed for more than 50 years, and currently administered to more than 9 million American women." http://www.rockymountainfoalrescue.org/RMFR_FAQs.html

However, it also contains a lot of other stuff that you might not want to ingest. Urine is not without value, but indiscriminately washing with it or drinking it is probably not healthy. It's also pretty gross.
