The whole shunning thing is ridiculous. After I DA'd I got a new job in a different town and found to my horror that 3 JWs worked in the same office. Of course, they had to talk to me at work, but one evening I was walking home and passed one of my coworkers on the street. He stiffened up and just walked past me without saying a word.
Catching up with DF couple in supermarket frustrating.

I had my ex-brother-in-law who is DFd try to convert me back to the religion because he figured it wouild make him look really good to the family.
I think we have a hard time understanding why DFd people who have been so hurt by the religion want to return, partly because JWs believe that anyone who is DFd is practicing sin and is completely on the side against the religion. In reality, I think most of them still believe. Yes, some are DFd for apostasy, but the majority just fell afoul of the rules.

JEMBA,
Guess what keeps you from getting reinstated? Hanging around with DF's people. I think you should take them up on their offer (as long as you actually like them of course and all that). You know....a glass of wine....a few conversations......people often surprise you. If he was willing to get cut off for love, he probably is slightly more of a rebel than you think.
I don't know, as long as you like these guys, why not hang out? The opportunity may come up for you to UNwitness to them. (rim shot)

"...The DF man was until recently a workmate of my Hubby so they quickly got into an animated discussion and I met the new wife who seemed nice but let me know they were getting reinstated ASAP. I was really dying to know if their DF had 'stumbled' them but unfortunately not.
I let them know that it was my DF years ago that set me on the path to realising that it wasnt the true religion.
The guys first wife had divorced him years ago but not 'scripturally' so if either of them wanted to marry again they would have to 'commit adultery' so it was up to him to free himself so he could marry this new lady.
I cant believe that after all the cult has put them through they still feel like its Gods chosen religion. Its so frustrating that they just cant see it. ..." OP
Hmm. As others have stated, they might be putting on the "show" so they can be reinstated, so they won't be cut off from family. In front of you two - apparently "active" Jehovah's Witnesses - they may have felt compelled to "talk the talk".
I wouldn't write them off so quickly, but on the other hand, I'd be VERY CAREFUL what I said around them, in future. Give them a chance, but ASK QUESTIONS and LISTEN - don't tell them anything about YOUR 'fade'.
