Yeah its a separating work alright.

Separating the cultists from the rest of the productive world.

It always seemed to me that the time counted more than the number contacted. Seeing as JWs are so stats orientated it would be easier to change the requirement from hours to people contacted.

@nugget: Exactly! The intention of the hour requirement and the accompanying guilt is to keep the followers too busy to do anything else and keep them from being distracted. By convincing many that hours=salvation, it's an easy control tactic for the WBTS. It works really well. The other "enlightened" ones will turn in time to save positions and avoid criticism. Nobody I know is very interested in actually reaching people.

Yeah now all these do gooders are posting their car groups on Instagram-BARF! Don't they realize that they are just what Jesus described that it is all about outward appearances? Now they post these redonkulous photos and it becomes a contest of how many "likes" they can get. Even worse...the nauseating comments made by other jdubs. The last straw was when someone posted a picture of their daughter making a call. Just the memories of being forced into this drudgery for so long actually made me sick to my stomach. This is when I cancelled my account and rejoined under an alias. Memories of the ministry are the most haunting for me.

    ^^^^LOL

So true, I never thought of that. It's always a battle of likes for fieldservice pics or a pic of a pen, notepad and convention program.

With such a high number of brothers (Spanish) and very little territory, it becomes almost comical to see how "street work" is done here. We are one of the "fortunate" congregations with a strip mall (a big food store and 7 or 8 smaller stores attached). On the weekends, you will see 2 or 3 groups of about 6 people each. What do we do? Stand and talk. That's it.

The stores don't open until 8-9AM but the brothers arrive between 6-7AM to "get their time started." I once watched a group of about 12 stand in a spot with noone nearby for about 2 hours. Every 5 minutes multiplied by 12 people as an hour. So about 24 hours of service time was counted without a word being said ... or attempted for that matter.

It is an easy way to get a few hours a month, be seen by others and not have to say a word.

The preaching work is truly a colossal waste of time. If even one tenth of this time was spent volunteering at the "Evil" Red Cross or local soup kitchen, it would actually have some palpable results. Now THAT would be real sacred work.

Instead this work has become a bad joke, where the only thing that matters is to come up with a number that you can put on the field report slip in order to keep you afloat in the congregational status meter. It continues to amaze me how any JW with any self respect could have the nerve to boast about how the JWs are the only ones preaching considering what really goes on.

What is interesting is that, there really isn't any attempt from the top to "weed out" wasted time and get an accurate measurement of actual time spent. Typical corporate bull$hit, where the only thing that matter is to inflate numbers so that everything looks positive and proper.

I wonder why more JWs don't see through this scam and start doubting their beliefs. I guess its just the amount of brainwashing they receive.

Wow. It's amazing how much I agree with everything being said here, and how much I take part of it. As pioneers thats all we do early in the morning, find ways to make as much time as possible. We sit on the bench at 7:30 morning and talk ourselves to death while keeping our magazines on our laps. I actually try to offer people literature whenever I can, but 99 percent of the time, it is all unproductive. And it's ridiculous how much the brothers focus on our numbers. One brother in my hall got on me because my return visits were down last month, and began showing me different methods that can be counted as a return visit. Apparently we can count emails and TEXT messages (even if it's just a few words) as a return visit now. They say it's so that we have no excuse as to why we "cannot make the time".

But, I see it as a way to just make us more lazy then ever.

    I don't know. It's crazy.
