London Weekend.

    Hi all, I’m back!

We had a wonderful few days in London. We stayed at the Union Jack Club in Waterloo, it’s a 3*** hotel that caters for servicemen and their guests. I think that £130 for a weekend for 2 in the City centre was pretty fair.

Her ladyship and myself were dead keen to travel on the London Eye. It was a fantastic experience, it was far bigger than I had imagined. Once the capsule has reached it s apex, the views are absolutely astonishing.

Later we walked along the South Bank through part of the old docklands where much regeneration is taking place, we stopped at a couple of pubs en-route and walked as far as Tower Bridge.

The best part of our weekend was the evening at the Albert Hall where we enjoyed a “Classical spectacular”. The Royal Philharmonic combined with the Grenadier Guards and the Royal Choral society for just under a 3 hour marathon of astonishing music. The next show, other than the Last night of the Proms, is next November. IMO, it’s well worth attending.

A great weekend, next week we're off to Italy, meanwhile you'll all have to put up with me for a few more days.

Gee, lovely pictures. They made me recall all the places in London I went to last summer, especially the eye. I loved it. A friend of mine who went to London a year before I did said they used to have guides in each car of the eye giving live commentary. Unfortunately, when I got there no guide but the view is amazing.

    Ozzie,

The hotel is dead opposite Waterloo station. Hey did you know that all the tube stations are being fitted with sliding doors that line up with the doors on the train so that you can't fall on the lines?

Interesting... we have something like that up in Sydney at the Olympic Park station.

Last time I visited London I noticed that the Underground rolling stock looked very very old. Anything new now?

    Cheers,
    Ozzie

    Ozzie,

All the rolling stock looked new, even on the District Line. Very fast and smooth, no um mum mum mum mum like there used to be.
