From the December 15, 1909 Watchtower:

"While our faith and hopes would be equally clear and logical whether this age ends in October, 1914, or a century later, nevertheless our expectation that "Gentile Times" will conclude October, 1914, undoubtedly has a stimulating effect upon our hearts and influences all of life's interests and helps to "wean" us from earthly joys and ambitions and to set our affections on things above!" [Italics mine]

    Wiggly bastards, aren't they?

No, no, no......all this proves is how right they were and able to discern and/or gleen these wonderful truths that The End would not happen for another century! Evidently, The End is coming in 2014. Time to sell those homes and businesses.......again!

Rutherford's mistake was in not allowing himself wiggle room.

He said in Millions Now Living Will Never Die that his readers could "confidently expect" the resurrection of the OT worthies in 1925.

Then he had the Society purchase Beth Sarim in San Diego so these resurrected ones could live there and moved in himself to keep the place warm.

Upon Rutherford's death, the organization sold Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob's house.

    Pretty embarrassing.

    But no matter.

If you show that to JWs today, most of them shake it off as "old light" and continue to believe that the GB speaks for Jehovah.

What is annoying with that statement, is the Watchtower and JW's now say they were correct - the gentile times did end in 1914. Yet it is clear that the expectation was for the new system to coincide with the end of the gentile times. After the failure of that prophecy, they redefined the expectation of gentile times, and now dishonestly claim they were not wrong.

"As early as 1876 they were publishing that the Gentile Times of 2,520 years would terminate in the year 1914. Events that have taken place from that year onward prove they were not wrong ." God's Eternal Purpose Now Triumphing For Man's Good (1974) pp.178-179

And they do the same with 1975 by saying 6000 years of mans history did end in 1975, we just don't know when God created Eve so we can't know exactly when the millennial reign will begin.

What a load of rubbish, good one Fred Franz.

We could never be proved wrong either if all we proclaimed were invisible happenings.
