It's interesting to me that something that doesn't faze one JW at all (such as the overlapping generations teaching) is the straw that breaks the camel's back for another.
Sometimes the better you understand a doctrine, the more "new light" troubles you.
This elder really bought into the promise that "you will never grow old in this system of things."
I wonder how many times he taught that to others.
When the GB made "generation" meaningless, he realized he'd been had.

I feel so badly for all who have suffered from this religion. I was 11-12 in 1975. Seven years later my Mom is trying to convince me and my younger brother that we didn't need to go to College because Armageddon was sooo close... imminently coming.
So ... SEVEN years AFTER this key prophecy of the Watchtower's had FAILED (and continues to fail to this day) my Mom is STILL bought into the fantasy! So friggin' sad.
Neither me nor my younger brother listened to our Mom's advice about not going to College. We did go... we are glad we did.

Sounds like he's on the road to recovery though but good grief the problems this religion causes people is astounding .

arobles - back in the 70's there were several who let their kids drop out of high school because they were in fear of them doing drugs......plus with 75 on the horizon, who needed high school diplomas?

BLINDERS OFF- This youtube is freaking awesome ! This guy explained everything so clearly and succinctly that I hope it touches the hearts of many JW's or others sitting on the fence deciding whether or not to leave the JW organization. Man, I sure feel deeply for this guy and what he went through. Experience the shunning myself , as long as there is life there is hope. I'm glad he got back on good terms with his mom. It's sad that it took the tragedy of his sister committing suicide to shake his family up ! But that shows how demented the mind control tactics are from the WT Society
