Okay, so the explanation is not simply god did it for a reason.

but after the boy got polio, god watched him in the iron lung and thought: aint my problem, not gonna fix that.

..and god did that for a reason..

Why would God allow such a virus to strike a small child?

I have a hunch that most atheists are not triggered by lack of proof as revulsion to the cultural/political overreaching of the Christian Church. When I read accounts of Luther and the start of the Reformation, particularly in England, there was an eager audience for his message. My primary objection to the Witnesses was not primarily intellectual but a gut feeling that I was violated by them.

If one could separate the actual Christ from what people call his church, more might find faith.

Most Western European democracies have freedom from religion. The church powers, whether Roman Catholic or Protestant, were so conservative and aligned with property interests of the nobility.

The article is an essay. It is clearly marked as not straight reporting. People are free to submit their viewpoints to the marketplace of ideas. The atheist Communists really fought against Hitler. The Christian churches had a very poor record. In fact, most were very intertwined with the Nazis.

Understanding national socialism as having anything in particular in common with christians is imo as wrong as when the implication is made with atheists...

    bohm - Fair comment.

How long did it take to work out that 42 was the answer to life, the universe and everything?

Yes, the christian churches who were part of Nazi Germany... which SHOULD tell everyone whether or not these were following CHRIST... or country/men/politics/etc.

God does not give us diseases.

We were not meant to be subject to such things at the onset; and we one day will not be subject to them.

For now, the physical ailments that come to this world are part of our flesh as well, and we are all subject to them. Some are caused directly or even indirectly by us.

    Peace,

This thread isn't about how a moral God exists, it's about whether or not atheism supersedes theology. The goto argument of lazy theists is that atheism doesn't provide adequate moral support during times of senseless turmoil which simply isn't true. Because atheists hear this erroneous argument so much they become legitmately frustrated. To call atheists second class moral citizens is an act of pure evil. The only reason why articles like that exist is because the atheists are trying to defend themselves against idiots. Propaganda wars.

This is utter rubbish. God created us and we were good. Adam fell so a small boy many generations later must suffer.

Belief in such a God goes beyond mere stupidity.
