Just received a new book I ordered on Barnes and Nobles website.

    JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES
Portrait of a Contemporary Religious Movement
    Andrew Holden [2002]

So far what I have read sucks!

Apparently this guy failed to do his OWN homework and relies too much on others. So he quotes others quoting others who quote the Watchtower.

On top of that his history is way off. He has the Watchtower predicting the end of the world in 1874. There was no Watchtower in 1874. He said Russell studied with the Seventh-Day Adventist Church .... WRONG.

He has Russell selling 'Miracle Wheat' to farmers .... WRONG.

Could be. It is people like this that gives xjw's a bad name. People buy this garbage [like me] and start quoting lies when they witness to JW's. Fortunate for me, I know my history and can see the errors.

We need competent apostates to write, write , write! C'mon guys, I know you're out there!

I agree with you 100% RR. It's books such as the one referred to that cause the shutters to go up in the Dub's mind rendering them even more impregnable.

I recall the time when there was not much more available than "100 Years a Watchtower Slave". Just the title put the thinking Dub off.

If we sincerely want to reach our former brothers and sisters and help them see the truth about 'the troof' it needs to be done in a reasoned, factual manner.

    Cheers,
    Ozzie

    Ozziepost,

While there may indeed be some who have been with the Society for one century, Schnell's book is "30 Years a Watchtower Slave".

Besides that, good points all around . Bad ex-JW books do almost as much harm as the Society itself.

RR, are you more hung up on the misrepresentation of Russell/ Bible Students or of the JW's as a whole?

Go therefore and baptize the people in the name of the father and of the son... what the hell, we just need to bring up the yearbook numbers!

    ozzie,

: I recall the time when there was not much more available than "100 Years a Watchtower Slave".

You idiot! Get yer facts right. The book was actually titled, "247.5 Years a Watchtower Slave."

    Geeesh!

: Just the title put the thinking Dub off.

Then, virtually NO dub was put off by it!

Ded, the 'Miracle Wheat' story is only partially true.

Russell was given the wheat for him to sell for $1.00 a bushel. The wheat was ALREADY advertised as "Miracle Wheat." He never mader a penny from the sale, and put the money in a special acount in the event anyone felt they were duped. No one ever complained. These attacks came from J.J. Ross a conman preacher from Canada. And till this very day people such as Walter Martin another charlatan use it.
