  That story sounds like at least the elder giving the talk, if not the entire BOE, really had it in for you. As hard as it was at the time, in the big scheme of things they actually did you an unwitting favor since it helped you finally exit the Borg. (Still a very unloving thing to do.)

  We had a Circuit Overseer that was a complete "Old School" hard a$$. He'd berate parents and little kids that were being allowed to doze during his snoozy talks. He tried to impose a ban on denim, etc.

  His hard-core approach was helpful in waking up my wife and children. Thank you very much Brother Jack Ass!

  When I sent to pio school they said Jehoover is a kind employer and he lets you take coffee breaks on company time.

  Apparently he failed to pay his Disability premium though.

  What an experience for the both of you! Thank you for sharing it. Those marking talks are horrible, calling people out for their own personal sins. I've never heard one given because of a true sin, like child molesting, they keep the serious sins close to the chest and just call people out for minor infractions...hypocrites!

  I feel for your daughter. I was hounded to auxiliary pioneer but I always refused. Those pioneer women were the most jealous, egotistical and hypocritical women I've ever met. One MS who was a kind and loving person had sto stop pioneering to work more and the women and elders berated him for storing up treasures on earth. He told them all to stuff it and if they wanted to pay his rent and living expenses he'd gladly go back on the list. Unfortunately he stayed in the cult. I'm so happy that you and your daughter are free.

  It's a terrible story, of course. No doubt about that. But people being mean is kinda like a dog-bites-man story, isn't it?

  The meta-narrative to this and a large number of its twins is simply that people are surprised that JWs can be mean like anybody else. See, JWs really think they are better than everyone else -- it is the reason why Jesus chose them over everyone else on the planet back in 1919, even though their teachings were far "worse" than they are now, for example.

  I find it interesting to see that the precipitating event that leads people to leave the JWs is not most often a doctrinal disagreement, it is the shocking realization that JWs are not the moral superiors of everyone else on the planet.

  Which leads us to ask:

  1) why in the world did you think you were so morally superior to everyone else in the world?

  2) have you healed yourself of that particular sin?

  Elders are company man who act according to strict direction from the WTS. When there is no defined procedure they have to use their own "judgement"...and that's when the trouble starts...they have none because in most cases things are all thought out for all JWs.

  We had the book study at our house and at the end the study the elder announced that the group would move to another location without warning us ahead of time. My wife started crying and left the room and I went behind her with our children. Some of the friends came upstairs after us and were shocked that we weren't told before nor given a reason. Later that night the elder called and asked if he could come by the following night to explain. I said he could and when he arrived I didn't invite him in...he told us that I didn't join them for service every Saturday morning and that was setting a bad example...he knew my work situation had changed and that I went out during the week when I knew I wasn't going to be able to join them on a Saturday. He didn't apologize for his rudeness and I asked him if he was done...he said yes, so I closed the door in his face. By the way our new group was meeting at his house...

  Oh my goodness. How unloving and RUDE. I know there are thousands out there just like us that have these horrible traumatic things happen to them. I know now that it is not just our family that they were 'picking' on. It's ALL who are critical thinkers, that they know they cannot control!

  I feel for all of you dear brothers and sisters and thank you for making us all feel welcome to this site. I pray that Jehovah and Jesus help you all in your struggle.

  Those stories disgust me, and i feel sad for you and your family.

  Sadly, those men are so blinded by being bred by the WT, they are just modern day Pharasees.

  Even if you find the occasional true shepherd among the elders, he is shackled by the WT Law Code he is to enforce.

  Like a sales organization, anyone not meeting their "quota" is dealt with.

  Enjoy the freedom and peace that comes from not serving the cruel master of the WT.
