Big corporations seem so happy to offshore jobs to India and China and don't care about ethics out there.
Equally the public will just pay the cheapest price for things - we all do it and fund slave labour.

Another thing, the other day I was on holiday on a Spanish island and they announced it was half price for women in the fitness and spa suite, and I couldn't believe the blatant sexism. Another English guy behind me shouted that's sexist, I guess these countries haven't caught up yet.
Not only that, Ballistic, but bars often have half price for single ladies on singles nights.
Where, I ask you, is the fairness in THAT?
Really? I thought we in England were a few years behind the USA on Political Correctness, not the other way round. Mind you, it was only 5 years ago they stopped Alcatraz the bar here in this county only letting in foreign students. It was stopped from doing this. The cheaper ladies thing can't be seen anywhere now.
I'm realloy sorry to the OP if I hijacked this thread, I just wanted to say that, in London, white British are now less than 50%. I don't know if this is classed as a minority or not (probably not by legal meaning) however, you can see that if you have a bar for foriegners only - that is racism.

LOL, you want to hang with a bunch of dudes?
that is a great way to look at the situation, but there's a principle at stake, just look at men only golf clubs, they are no more over here. Anyway, you're hanging round with a load of girlies that want free drinks as well as free entry pal. ;)
This is not a new story, unfortunately. I've heard many other aspects of it. The child bride phenomena, for example. In Bangladesh, about two-thirds of girls are married before age 18, one-third prior to 15. These young girls are victimized by older men who come from other countries, too.
And, yes, bride burnings are on the rise.
In many cases there are laws that supposedly protect women, but they are not enforced. The cultural attitudes run very deep.
Just as a bit of an aside. I had to call HP about a problem with my new computer. I ended up on the phone for like an hour with a young man in India. We chatted a bit about stuff like the weather, etc. But he surprised me right at the outset by asking how old I was. In our culture a service person on the phone would never ask something like that (unless it was related to the problem). Yet I guess to him that was quite normal. I don't know if it had to do with me being female, or just his natural curiosity, but it brought home to me that we cannot begin to comprehend some of these cultural differences and attitudes. Trying to change them from afar through international negotiations as this writer suggests is a complex matter.
James, I'm shocked that you are shocked.
I googled it, just to get a recent news article. Here's an excerpt ...
In 2010, 8391 dowry death cases were reported across India, meaning a bride was burned every 90 minutes, according to statistics recently released by the National Crime Records Bureau.
But if a bride refused to satisfy incessant demands by her husband and in-laws for money and goods, despite having brought with her the mandatory dowry at the time of marriage, she was subjected to inhuman treatment.
With prosperity burgeoning after the early 1990s when India's state-controlled economy opened up to a free market system, this pernicious custom became more acute with greedy grooms backed by their families seeking to get rich through their hapless brides.
Dowry, although banned by law in 1961 but never seriously enforced, is an ancient tradition prevalent amongst most Indian families.
A decade earlier this number was 6995, but climbed to 8093 dowry deaths in 2007.

Ayup!

Ballistic,, they give half-price drinks on ladies' night to bring in more women. This provides better trolling for the males who are hot to trot, especially when the wimmins will be nicely "likkered up". Therefore, more business for the bar.
