I've run the gamut of all possible coffee making techniques and devices. I'm now drinking Nespresso. Perfect espresso every single time. Two shots in the morning and a small latte in the evening.
Does anyone here drink demitasse? I love the Limgoges coffee demitasse cups b/c they are so much more affordable than a coffee cup. They are cute to me. Is demitasse espresso? The baby cups would not be practical for coffee which I drink by the mugsful.
I've ground my own beans for decades now.
People told me to store coffee beans in the freezer. I had a lovely Portemerion canister to show off and hold beans. It turns out now that the freezer is the worst place to store beans. So I am reverting to the counter as my mom stored coffee in that matter. I am certain that someday soon the advice will be to freeze the beans again.
I like regular coffee with creamer. I can't drink it after 1 or 2 in the afternoon if I want to sleep that night. I don't love coffee so much that I will drink it decaffienated. Once in a blue moon I might add a flavored creamer. I kind of like hazelnut coffee on occasion, but right now I have the Kirkland Signature Supremo Bean Fine Grind Dark Roast. It's the brown & gold 3 lb can that, thank goodness, just went down to $9.99 again. Yummmmmy.
I keep my coffee in the refrigerator. I don't like the way the oils in coffee change at warmer temperatures.
I use a sunbeam, 10 cup drip coffee maker, no frills, that I bought for $10 in 2002.
i like my coffee hot and black and strong. no milk, no sugar and omfg no additional flavor.
don't know what you guys over the pond call what i drink, but i guess it's italian roast. lavazza, segafredo, manuel, that kind of stuff. or nespresso.
and yeah, i'd drink it any time a day or night.
At home I make my own "Half-Caff". Half "leaded" French Roast and half "unleaded" French Roast.
During the week I drink one 12 oz cup with 1/2 & 1/2. On the weekends, I'll have 2 or 3 large cups without getting the jitters. All my caffeine intake is done before 3pm or it will affect my sleep.
When in the mood for a pilgrimage to a caffeine mecca like San Francisco, I was briefly torn between two caffeine sects: Philz & Four Barrel.
I was converted to Philz Coffee,
several years ago and still enjoy their place in the Mission District of SF. However, a couple years ago they started expanding and now have several locations throughout the SF Bay Area. Hmmm, possibly they were no longer God's chosen "channel" of caffeinated goodness.
Subsequently, I was turned onto a start-up coffee cult: Four Barrel Coffee.

They are the sole possessors of caffeinated "Truth". All other vendors are from Satan. Don't even THINK about going anywhere else!

I am with Billy and roast my own. I have got around 30-40 kilos of green beans. Ethiopian Harrar and Yirgacheffe are a couple of my favs, either macchiato or piccolo late. But I do like many south american varietys, and Indian Monsoon Malabar, Papua New Guinea Waghi.
Taste is a preference thing, some like coffee weak and sweet, and they will call this 'good coffee'. Nespresso is convenient, simple and consistent. I would say consistently poor, but that is my taste. Coffee like any food goes stale, it is at its best for up to about 4-5 weeks after roasting. Beyond that it is stale. Some beans taste great a few days after roasting (generally South Americans) others taste better left to rest a couple of weeks. Coffee should be ground immediatley before brewing. Coffee that is bought pre-ground is not going to be much good. Anyways I am getting a bit carried away about coffee I just really like the stuff.
Having travelled rather extensively I found Vietnamese coffee in the Dalat region one of the finest on the planet. The quality of the arabica beans was purely exceptional and I like my coffee min-blowingly strong. Even so, it was smooth as a baby's bottom. :D
Vietnamese coffee is something you will have to google - it's usually iced and put in brewing pots that slowly drip down. Stuffing the coffee in takes practice as does the grinding. It's a real ritual in Vietnam and is something that men do around 10am every day.
For around the house I drink expresso with hot water - I haven't owned a coffee maker in many years and don't intend on buying one ever again. Expresso and water is the way to go. :)
