According to the Bible's timetable, the beginning of the seventh millennium of mankind's existence on earth is near at hand, within this generation.
They obviously meant " overlapping " generations. Eat that apostates!
I just finished reading the description of 1975 in Penton's book, Apocalypse Delayed. He quotes directly from Freddie Franz that "independent Bible reseachers" are now certain of chronology. Freddie Franz was the secret writer of the NWT. Freddie Franz was the "independent Bible researchers." Oh, if this were a securities issue, would he be in trouble for not disclosing his interests! I was a teenager and so ignorant that I truly believed through some invitation, scholars from Cambridge, Harvard, Sorbonne, and other notable universities converged and agreed to illuminate the matter for JWs.
My parents and extended family knew Franz personally. I never did. What did Bethelites think of his talents? I've read there was major fallout b/c of the failure of 1975. Penton reports that Bethelites were actually shocked that it did not happen. Did Franz ever acknowledge his chronology or calculations were hasty?
These minor figures loomed so large in my life. I was raised that Franz had the most brilliant mind in all of human history. Very little history or personality discussion was ever available before the internet.
Altho I left, I was in terror until 1976 arrived.

The uneventful passing of 1975 was certainly not missed by many 100's of 1,000's.
From 15% growth to 2% decline in just 4 years.
The first mention I remember about 1975 was in the book entitled "Everlasting Life in Freedom of the Sons of God." I think it was released in 1967. I may have a copy somewhere, but I just moved and don't know where anything is.
