I laughed out loud! Guess you had to be there!
Nearly every Saturday morning for the first 5 or 6 years of child hood
now i see why a lot of people were so pissed off with us when we would ring there bells on a early sat.
thank you for exposing me to Portlandia! U had never heard of it but it's hilarious. I just watched like a dozen clips.
(deleted, it wasn't all that funny)
Friends have tears in their eyes when I relate how at the age of 8 or 10, I knocked on doors or rang bells. An adult always answered. Well, there was the time in the housing projects when a stark naked little boy came to the door with is mom. That threw me. I did what I ws told would work perfectly in Mnistry School. Me: "Do you believe in eternal life?" Next, I opened my NWT to some verses in Revelation. I would knock on doors so earnestly for hours and no one was even nice when they said,"NO."
No one at the KH or home thought it was a bit rude to have a little kid preach to a grown adult. I used to ponder what I was doing wrong b/c I so wanted to please Jehovah. I could never get a study. Why did others convert so many and I could not place a single book?
Frankly, I would realize that a little kid is only doing their parents' bidding. I would smile as I said No. The dirty looks I would reserve for the parents.
So true.
That tickled my funnybone
They tried that with me--the dingbat would not take no for an answer. And it got worse as I went along--that thing was not going to let me simply "give it a fair try" with the option of discontinuing if at any time I found that the program was a lie or they abused me.
The good news is that I never was forced to be that persistent on any one householder.
I love Portlandia, the parents heading back to a door, asking how could you shut the door in the face of a cute little kid.
May I say one thing without judgement, Oregonians are weird. Portlandia brings back childhood memories because of knowing so many people who moved to Oregon and six months latter were bashing Californians, Nevadians and others for moving up to their State. The became experts of enviromental preservation, closer to Mother Earth and a few joined "Earth First". Had to been there to see what I saw.
That was too damn funny!
