My wife got me started watching this show last year. We've downloaded the previous seasons on Netflix and have found it to be really well done. The story line, scenery, costumes, old cars and compelling characters have us hooked. The previous seasons are available on DVD so you can watch it from the beginning. One cold rainey weekend we had the fire going, drank tea and watched them snuggled together under a blanket.

Poor Mr. Bates.....and that Mrs. O'brian is not to be trusted.

*raises hand* Yep I love Downton. Got first 2 series boxed sets for Chrimbo too. You might like the latest series here in UK 'Mr Selfridge' it's not quite as good as Downton but it's good.

I fear for Mr. Bates' safety. And the marriage of Lord and Lady Grantham.

Raises hand for self and dear hubby!

"Mary" is on my LAST nerve (always has been, actually - what a spoiled woman!). Too bad for dear Sybil... and Lady Grantham SHOULD be upset and angry IMHO (like men always know "better" with women's bodies... and "mother's intuition"... today, let alone back then!). Concerned for Bates, too. Think he's gonna get shanked, ALMOST die... but recover and return to service at Downton Abbey. He's too important a character to die, IMHO. Now Thomas... THAT'S a snake if ever there was one. He's the one to thank for O'Brien's turn of face, though (although, she can't be trusted, either, but right now, he's her enemy, so...).

Anyone also get into the "Tudors"? THAT was really good!

    Peace!

    A doulos of Christ,

As I told my husband, it's amazing how acceptable a soap opera can be with period costumes and British accents!

My favorite piece of dialogue to date (naturally from the Dowager Countess)

"Really, Rosamond, there’s no need to be so gleeful. You sound like Robespierre, lopping off the head of Marie Antoinette."

The Dowagger Countess,Maggie Smith to Matthew who fears he will offend his father in law by revamping the estates financial planning(or lack of)

Matthew: Downton is being mismanaged, cousin Violet, and something must be done.

The thing is, how do I do it without putting people's noses out of joint?

Violet: Oh my dear. I don't think there is a way to achieve that.

I mean, you must do what must be done, of course' but I can safely say a great many noses will be out of joint.

Mrs Cedars and I enjoy thoroughly watching it, and we're fully up-to-date with all the episodes. In my opinion it's the best drama the UK has ever produced. My only criticism is that it goes a bit overboard sometimes. The deeper into the episodes you go, the more the characters seem to drop like flies. Somebody needs to tell the writers that you can write a gripping storyline that will keep people coming back for more without killing off every likeable character!
