    The cycle continues...

Two weeks ago a loving and fragile sister passed away due to her age and chronic health, she only had one son and 2 grandsons. (She was the only JW in her family)When my wife gave me the sad news we immediately went over to the hospital to give some words of comfort to the grieving family.

What happened next was another cruel example of works for salvation VS. good deeds from love One elder started calling all elders from the cong. and guess what the pioneering elder said.... Elder pioneer: Brother (such and such) I am behind in my hours and on Saturdays I need to put in my time. I can't go! Elder who called: What?... OK no problem

Now what is wrong with this picture?? The elder who had to put in time is considered spiritually strong, his father is a CO substitute, he gives talks in CA and DA etc... Yet no one corrected him for showing no love and care for others. All I could remember was Jesus words:
    John 13:34,35

    Amplified Bible (AMP)

34 I give you a new commandment: that you should love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too should love one another.

35 By this shall all [men] know that you are My disciples, if you love one another [if you keep on showing love among yourselves].

I am behind in my hours and on Saturdays I need to put in my time.

And that my friend is one of the things that make the JW religion a cult.

Pioneers are judged solely, uniquely, exclusively, on the count of "hours" on their field service reports.

There is no slot on the report for "hours spent visiting the sick and dying", nor is there any credit given for doing so, as is given for working on construction projects.

Thus, this pioneer (and the majority of pioneers) view "hours" as the primary concern in their life. "Hours" trumps (literally) all other concerns.

That sister has now become useless to the WTS

"Elder pioneer: Brother (such and such) I am behind in my hours and on Saturdays I need to put in my time. I can't go!"

He just didn't want to go. As an Elduh 'ministering' to the worldly family of a Sister, he could have counted his time at the hospital.

"putting in time" - what a strange definition of spirituality! Sounds more like a prision sentence.

It's disgusting in the Jehovah's Witness organization. WT functions ALWAYS take priority over showing love and true human compassion and empathy. One of the many reasons I left the organization

Keep this "pioneer's" response in mind if he ever asks a favor of you.

After all, Jesus said that the stones could preach, but only humans can provide love and comfort. Perhaps it's better that this as$ho!e continue doing the work of a rock and leave the job of helping those in need to humans like you.

I don't understand. How much time will the funeral take out of his day? An hour? Two? You pioneer for a whole year, not month by month. Is he trying to say he couldn't make up that hour at any point over the next 7 months?
