Let me take an educated guess about something that will not change: Even reduced to 16 pages - and with lots of white space in the magaiznes - the average JW will still claim they are far too busy to read them.

How about reducing it to two words: Hail Satan!
That would save them lots of money, since they would only have to put out one card, and it would last forever. Not to mention, the boasting sessions would be so much simpler if they simply turned openly pro-Satanist, quit blaspheming Satan, and also quit pretending to be Christian when they are in fact half Jewish and half Paulian Christian. (And, there would be much less worry about people missing them, since they would still remember it 80 or 90 years later.)

The bad part about it is that I will get less when I take the older magazines to recycling as they pay by the pound.

There's lots of blank space, and loads of colourful graphics. Some elderly ones in my congregation are not happy.
One of them called it 'painting by numbers'.

Sad to say, the Watchtower has a long history of introducing changes and utterly ignoring any negative feedback from the rank and file. Soon enough the changes become accepted by most as right and proper.

It's just like everything else. A smaller product is ntroduced such as 8 oz cans of soda. Then they raise the price of that to what the 12 oz cans are. People don't notice.
People will continue to contribute the same for the 16 page mags as for the 32 and they get a winfall.
