They are not the most powerful nation on earth, we are. Let me be clear too, when I say nazi, I do not necessarily mean national socialism, i mean a social structure that absolutely dominates those outside of their ilk (dominate as in death or slavery). If you knew anything about the way the world works, you would know that was not a strange comment. I'll sit here all day speaking and in the meantime invite folks from a web board that actually knows wtf they are talking about here to really pile on.

The President obliged the public by envoking 'heaven' in his euology for the Newton victims and their families.

That is very convoluted. Please explain what you mean in practical terms.

How would a society that did not have a belief in the after-life in any way resemble the Nazis?

If you knew anything about the way the world works, you would know that ...

Maybe a little less patronising and a bit more clarity.

What about all of the people who have died and come back to life.

They all share a similar experience. I have a relative who has experienced this,

    and he swears by it.

LSD will also provide similar experiences. I realize what you're saying because their heart stopped beating for a period of time. I would wager that also in some instances drug addicts experience the same thing. Can you reason that out? does it make sense that a person is going to heaven or hell before they are even permanently dead? like, oh hey god whats up? oh ok back to earth , later.

What would happen if we did not have religion to give some at least inference to (at the very least) our subconscious, that there is some type of afterlife?

The very same thing that happened before there was religion. We would seek answers, and share those answers and the spirituality and faith found.

what would we tell kids when they ask us what happens when we die? what would we tell kids after these shooting massacres? what would we tell kids about sickness and disease?

If no one knew, then I imagine that they would say, we're not sure.

People now tell their children various answers. I don't know. Some people think (and list all the options). Or we live on in our children. Or our energy returns to a source.

I expect people would tell the children the actual reasons for massacres; that people hurt people for *insert reason here*.

We are more intelligent and aware now than we have ever been in the modern age (well at least more aware), what happens if all of the sudden the ideas provided by religion (most importantly the afterlife) were ripped out from underneath of us? would mental illness exponentially get worse? would people even find it harder to get by in cases of loss and death? would suicide get even worse? do we need to tell our kids fairy tales to keep them sane during their growth periods?

If there is no afterlife... then people might not even think about such things at all. Grieving might be worse. Hard to speak to rhetorical situations like that. Taking hope away from people... would probably result in greater depression, loss of hope, potentially more suicide. But if it just wasn't in the psyche at all, then people would just be people without having that need, imo. For some, sanctity of life might be less, and for others, it might be more.

If there is an afterlife, and the spiritual,... then people would naturally seek this out as... just as they did long ago and do now... leading to where we are now if/when men tried to market, organize, and control faith and God.

I can only tell you what I believe will happen to me
I know that Fire in under the earth because when
vulcano's erupt the fire sure shows itself -so at death I go to hell
If the fire erupts under my coffin I will be in it. But I wont feel anthing cos I'm dead.
Then I believe my Spirit goes before the Creator, & I also believe because I invited
HIM into my life in 1989 To Be MY LORD A SAVIOUR
HE adopted me in a born again experience . He has forgiven me for all my sins
& belive me there are Many!!!! I also believe the promise that in heaven what ever
I will look like ,there is no pain, suffering,or tears......
The only trouble I have is while on earth I can forgive myself ...I hassle with that.
But if GOD can forgive me who the heck am I?????

I have trouble with that too, Mouthy. To give myself some perspective, I have started to ask myself what I would advise someone else... if they were me.

But the best thing, as you stated, is simply to trust Christ and God to the forgivness and love and mercy they offer and give.

    Peace to you,

I told hm I would not give any adice as to what he would do BUT! NO
I would not go back for them..... You KNOW what happened to OOMPA!!!!

    (((Mouthy)))

That is not your fault. You did not wrong him. You did not reject him. You were not the one causing his pain. And there is no way to know that going back or not going back would have done anything to ease the pain the wts caused him. I bet there are many people scouring through things they said or did not say to him (as is always the case in a suicide), wondering if they could have done something to prevent it. I don't think that you would blame someone else who answered Oompa as you did, if they were feeling regret about their words. Even if you did think so, you know that forgiveness from Christ and God is given if one only asks. I know you trust in them.

    Much love to you,

    tammy
