I asked an elder today...from the horse's mouth!

So Australia alone is contributing a mint, and the US is more than 10 times bigger than Australia so there must be like a billion dollars coming from the US.

Bad PR impacts donations, too. Ask the Catholic church about that.

I, for one, am glad to see it. Every corporation relies on steady income from its customers. The WT has obviously hit a snag. Their products are not in demand. The younger customer base is used to "information" being free or close to free. They are not going to pay for it. I am thinking Kodak, Poloroid, American Motors, and VHS movie players.

Any business/corporation that does not listen to feedback from its customer base will lose paying customers. The watchtower is based on a 1950's business model that is no longer viable. And as with most top heavy mananged companies by the time they take action it may be too late.

Let's hope so. Didn't Russel say that the money would roll in as long as God was supporting the Watchtower? So why worry about constantly asking for money?

In countries such as the UK (and I think Canada & Australia) the WTS, like any charity, must publish their charitable information annually. Some reports have been posted here. Do the current reports indicate a significant drop in donations? Say. . . . from 5 or 10 years ago? How about a per publisher basis?

In the US it is completely secret. I do not think they have to report anything publicly. Instead of the WTS facing a serious shortfall in contributions, could all the selling off of property be in countries that put them at risk in lawsuits or where they are experiencing a high number of suits? Could the sell off in Brooklyn be an attempt to liquidate assets here in the States where payouts for litigation runs rampant thus enabling them to send the money elsewhere in the World that offers better protection for the assets of a Corporation?

$1Billion of real estate can still be lost via the potential law suits in the USA. Is the new Warwick HQ being constructed in the name of a new Corporation that can remain free of any "old" liability? And by selling off the assets of the WTS of NY and WTS of PA there will be nothing to seize in future lawsuits if they legally and discreetly "donate" these funds to the branches in Switzerland or the Caymans or other havens for cash?

They are shrewd when it comes to money management.

Whenever the donation box was light at my cong, the elders went on a witch hunt and people got dfd. They said it was proof jehoover had removed his spirit from the cong because of sin that hadn't been purged.

It's not a rich congregation but has a stable level of funds in the bank. But the contributions to the "Worldwide Work" has been steadily decreasing.

Well maintenance costs ususally move up over time. If the donations don't follow the trend, well less is left over.

The GB can't turn two small fishes and bread into thousands, so guilt is all they have to turn to. I'm just amazed that the elder pointed out this fact and didn't connest the dots

I doubt whether that elder actually knows what he is talking about. He just probably pulled that factoid out of his ass.

On a related point, I've always thought it is rather telling that the WTBTS requires individual congregations to read their Account Reports regularly to that congregation, but they do not set the example with transparency regarding their handling of the organization's finances.

Just one more example of hypocrisy.

EdenOne - There's an interesting phenomena in my congregation.

Contributions to the local congregation are coming in as usual. It's not a rich congregation but has a stable level of funds in the bank. But the contributions to the "Worldwide Work" has been steadily decreasing. I wonder what this means and if it's an observable trend elsewhere.

Any congregation that has a significant amount of funds in the bank for their local needs, I predict will be directed to remodel/build their KH within 2 years whether the congregation feels that they should or not. I believe the the WTBTS has changed its business model because donations have fallen and will now insist that the richest congregations remodel/rebuild their KH's and then work there way down to the poorest congregations eventually.

Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,

    Robert
