Bad: You are doing some deep personal searching.

Good: I'm currently dealing with some personal health issues that I'd rather keep private and I don't want to add any more stresses than I have to at the moment, but thank you for considering me."

OnTheWayOut you are correct, I can simply say no.

RayPublisher Thanks! My respect to you and your battles. Keep up the good work and don't forget, ' your Father, Who sees in secret, will reward you in the open' prologos exactly right and I don't want to dig myself deeper respectful_observer Thanks for pointing out the scenario for me. moshe LOL. It is funny to know that a scratch ticket can help me get out sooner but it is also contradictory to read in the elder's book how they cannot condemn small gambling... Real good advice... I now have a good exit strategy for not taking the elder's role. I will keep you guys updated

Tell them you decline, because you are affraid that that the Watchtower Society will end up throwing the local elders under the bus, because of their botched handling of the pedophile scandal, then watch for the look on their faces.

Hey you evil apostates! I just want to give you an update.

Turns out the BOE could not make me an Elder 6 months ago because I have to be an MS for 3 years...(WOW, the WT has so many hidden rules)

    My first question,

Where is this rule written? In the secret elder's book or in a letter?

Now, 3 years have past and we just had our visit. What could be the best way to say NO, without saying F**K NO? I do not want to rock the boat yet and I still look like a good little JW company man.

If you have acted the part of a good witness for 3 years, i think you will come up with something.

the 3 year rule must be a local thing or the Circuit overseers thing. I have never heard of it before and have actually seen brothers progress faster than this in my own congregation

There is no 3 year rule, as to how to say no without being 'detected', just say no thank you as I feel I can serve the congregation better in my current capacity and feel being an elder would put on too much stress on me and my family at this time.

are elders appointed by holy spirit?

then--tearfully AGREE TO BE AN ELDER--but show humility--and bow to their wise choice

does the holy spirit cock it up sometimes--?

oh boy--just think of all the fun you can have " stuff pioneering--for starters.

throw your weight around in the cong---see how many you can stumble

assignments--talks--this just brings tears to my eyes--think of the gaffs and crap you can come out with--who will challenge you--(who will even notice !!)

and--at home--just think of the pleasure--and prestige---- it will bring your dear wife

    to start with---------
