It is clearly evident that they are suffering from this disorder by all they say, cause to be written, and how they have interpeted scripture so illogically or so megalomaniacally.

Narcissistic personality disorder is a condition in which people have an excessive sense of self-importance, an extreme preoccupation with themselves, and lack of empathy for others.

    Causes, incidence, and risk factors

Cause of this disorder is unknown. Early life experiences, such as particularly insensitive parenting, are thought to play a role in the development of this disorder.

    Symptoms

A person with narcissistic personality disorder may:

    • React to criticism with rage, shame, or humiliation

    • Take advantage of other people to achieve his or her own goals

    • Have excessive feelings of self-importance

    • Exaggerate achievements and talents

    • Be preoccupied with fantasies of success, power, beauty, intelligence, or ideal love

    • Have unreasonable expectations of favorable treatment

    • Need constant attention and admiration

    • Disregard the feelings of others, and have little ability to feel empathy

    • Have obsessive self-interest

    • Pursue mainly selfish goals

    Signs and tests

Narcissistic personality disorder is diagnosed based on a psychological evaluation that assesses the history and severity of the symptoms.

    Treatment

Although NPD is predominantly associated with more men, anyone of any economic background, race, or sex can be affected by NPD. Mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, co-workers, and bosses. No one is immune to this disorder. Although many researchers and victims of individuals with NPD do not believe individuals with NPD can be treated or cured, NPD is a disease of the mind outside of the normal pathology of society, and serious education is necessary.

“Some of the most disturbing realities are not that pathology exists but that so little public pathology education for the general public exists,” notes Sandra L. Brown of The Institute for Relational Harm Reduction and Public Psychopathy Education.

Unfortunately, in addition to the lack of public education about NPD and other pathological disorders, there is an abundance of misinformation and trivialization of NPD in the media.

Most recently, the Dr. Phil show aired an episode titled, “Confronting Narcissistic Personalities” leaving many well-educated viewers disappointed and reeling and demanding a re-do of the show. Many viewers felt the episode marginalized the negative impact individuals with NPD inflict and seemed to simplify narcissistic disorders as a behavior that is more annoying than dangerous.

In an open letter to Dr. Phil and his producers published to her site One Mom’s Battle, Tina Swithin writes:

“There is an army of us who work tirelessly to educate the public, the media, and the courtroom about Narcissistic Personality Disorder, and [Dr. Phil] just set us back tremendously. I encourage [Dr. Phil] to speak to the women and men in my group who have been devastated by this personality disorder. I encourage [Dr. Phil] to do a show that takes a look at the reality of Narcissistic Personality Disorder and what it is like to divorce a narcissist.”

The website for The Institute for Relational Harm Reduction and Public Psychopathy Education concisely sums up why education is so vital when it comes to disorders like NPD:

“The truth is, nothing impacts non-pathological people as much as being in a relationship with someone who is pathological. Without the education of ‘what‘ the disorder is, ‘how‘ it came to be, ‘whom‘ it affects, and ‘why‘ it harms others, partners, family and children will continue living in the shadows of unspoken confusion and pain.

According to what I've read about NPD, people with this disorder are the least amenable to therapy. They resist. They play head games with the therapist. Most of them would have to be hogtied and remain so throughout the therapy session. Even then, it probably wouldn't do much good. They don't care if they hurt people. It has always worked for them, so why change a winning system.

Blessings to all of you who have narcissistic people in your lives. Probably the only solution is to get away from them. If you can get them to change, you are my hero!

    Regards,

I'm sure people at bethel and the rank and file would all be better off if the Governing Body would make an effort to get some treatment as it is clear if this is left untreated more will die unnecessarily.

It is a hard thing to treat and it would cost the Governing Body greatly to give up this delusion, but it the benifits would be great for those that suffer from their delusion.

    Causes of Narcissistic Personality Disorder

While the exact cause is unknown, researchers have identified some factors that may contribute to the disorder. Childhood experiences such as parental overindulgence, excessive praise, unreliable parenting, and a lack of realistic responses are thought to contribute to narcissistic personality disorder.

    Treatments for Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Individual psychotherapy can be effectively used to treat narcissistic personality disorder, although the process can be difficult and time consuming. It is important to note that people with this disorder rarely seek out treatment. Individuals often begin therapy at the urging of family members or to treat symptoms that result from the disorder.

Therapy can be especially difficult because clients are often unwilling to acknowledge the disorder. This difficulty in treatment is often compounded by the fact the insurance companies are focused on short-term treatments that minimize symptoms such as depression and anxiety, but ignore the underlying problems.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy is often effective to help individual's change destructive thinking and behavior patterns. The goal of treatment is to alter distorted thoughts and create a more realistic self-image. Psychotropic medications are generally ineffective for long-term change, but are sometimes used to treat symptoms of anxiety or depression.

    Good luck with that!

You've all forgotten that it's YOU that have the problem, not THEM.

Well I'm sure all NPD sufferers feel that way about anybody who suggest they get treatment, goes with the territory.

Talk therapy seems to be the ticket for the Governing Body treatment of this disorder. Talk therapy not amoung themselves(which will only make matters worse) but with a highly skilled professional to get them to see where Black and White thinking and Leaps in Logic has gotten them into this sorry psychological state.

Frankie, I understand what you're saying, that Talk Therapy may help the GB members.

But first, they don't think they have a problem so you'll never get them to seek help; and second, given their aversion to psychologists and psychiatrists they'd never go to one of them.

So, should the Governing Body seek professional treatment? Yes

    Will they? No

    00D,

Yeah that's the real bitch that these guys on the Governing Body need therapy but because of a stubborn delusional assumption all based on a biased interpetation of scripture and making up prophecies were there isn't any.

Adding dates where their is no justification, making parables into prophecies that support a corporational development into an instrument of God almighty, fear of a nonexistent deity which later turns into their own corporational sock puppet.

Yeah being tangled up in this delusion along with a Narcissistic Personality they will only seek professional help when the cognitive dissonance gets unbearable and their is no other alternitive. Many inside the ranks of Jehovah's Witnesses will suffer greatly as these psychos on the Governing Body use the cruelest measures to enforce their authority over them.

FRANKIESPEAKIN- The problem with the governing body is they are SO narcissistic they'd never ADMIT to ANY problem with a therapist. It's always the rank & file JW's who have the problems in the GB's eyes. The day that the GB admits fault about anything is the day Armageddon finally comes. Ain't never gonna happen
