Snarky Question

If JW's are allowed to do all of the things on your list, earthfire, it's news to me. I have been out since 1979, so maybe I'm out of touch with the rules.

As an adult approaching 30, I was ordered not to watch Eric Clapton on TV. I was counseled about wearing a cute little hat that matched my outfit AND about buying a 25-cent bet on a baseball game (although I'm sure it would have been okay to spend it on a candy bar so I could get fat), and was derided for taking a couple of college courses.

When did it become okay to be somewhat normal like other people?

So, wait...you're complaining that the organization isn't restrictive enough?

I don't "want" them to be more restrictive. I just think don't think they're consistent on what they say versus what is allowed. If the world is SO evil then they shouldn't be allowed to do the fun things. I see a lot of hypocrisy in what many do. For instance, my brother who is married to the daughter of an extremist elder, they go to Foo Fighter concerts among others and out for drinks with friends, etc. But will not at all speak to me or our mom. Our mom was DF over 20 years ago, is a total homebody, never drinks, smokes, etc. but she's not good enough to meet her grandson. It just doesn't add up in a logicl sense. Not that I expect logic from the organization. That's my whole point.

I think what he is saying is they are hypocrites..

They used to say we don't judge movies by their worldly rating PG- R.. we have a higher standards.. then they judge you if you see a rated R movie

The Ragazines and Pubic Talks are very clear on all of those issues, the fact that many are getting away with those behavious is a symptom of the malaise that has resulted from Jehovah locking himself in the privy and refusing to fulfill the WT's promises.

There was some parts at a district convention a few years ago talking about how when a show or a movie comes on that has homosexuals in them, whether they are gay in the show or gay in real life, we should shun that show and turn it off instead of indulging, because watching a gay guy will make us gay. I know for a fact that most JW's I know do not turn off a show or movie when there is a gay guy in there. Plus, why in the world does it matter if there are gays, do they think we will be so swayed by a lisp and a limp wrist wave?

Hubby's favorite movies these days are pre-code, watched in the safety of our own home, of course. He won't go near Harry Potter, though.
