Could humans live forever on Earth?
Since I was born I believed It was my destiny to live forever in a paradise on earth.
Now that dream has been put aside, I question the whole concept of an everlasting Earth.
Of course scientists have long pointed out that the earth does not have an infinite life span. And even if it did there are other factors to consider.

1.The Sun will eventually die. This causes obvious problems to life on earth.
2.Earth goes through cycles of large climate change over thousands of years , resulting in such drastic climatic conditions as ice ages.
3.The gravity of the earth is gradually changing (Can't remember if its going up or down)either way this would change what kind of life can live on earth.(magnetic polls shift as well and reverse over time, I'm not sure what effect if any this has but I believe they are getting weaker which would have an effect.)
4.Universe expanding , eventually stars too far away which would effect the gravitational pulls on our galaxy which could have big effects on our sun (if it was still there)in turn effecting the earth.
5.Meteorites and other space debris are a constant danger to the earth. One large impact could destroy much life.

Now of course if you believe in a God you might reason that god will do something about those problems.
But through observing the universe we see that there is a pattern of life and death. We need things to die in order to live. On a most basic level plants and animals die for us to eat, but we even need the death of stars in order to form planets and the elements found on them, which we use to live, and many other interlinked life and death cycles.
Even our bodies cells constantly die and get recycled from the food we eat .So maybe the death of our earth is a natural process which is part of the cycle of life in our universe.
Perhaps in the future man will be able to leave this earth for a new planet when this one becomes uninhabitable.
But this earth seams designed for a limited life, which one day will end.

God will wave His magic wand, and the earth and the universe will be made perfect forever....or something like that

    Intresting thoughts sleepy.

Science however seems to change it's theory on various matters quite often when newer information becomes available......kind of like the dubs!

I just heard the other day that scientist have said regarding global warming......"actually the earth is getting colder in many places".

How long has the earth been around so far?

The 'paradise' message really wasn't what attracted me to the dubs. I never really believed it in my heart. Seems like pure fantasy. I'm not sure what to make of the creation account with Adam and Eve, though.

Hi Sleepy: As noted above, the Sun will die ... it is about half way through its life of 10 Billion years ... 5 Billon to go. However, the bad news is that we are on a collision course with the Andromeda Galaxy ... and we will collide in only 3 Billion years, costing us 2 Billion years. Then again, maybe perfect everlasting humans will have advanced space travel to a point that we can find new planets, and simply move around the Galaxy ...

Following Bible principles, we will avoid trying to live - or demand others to live - by an extensive and rigid set of dos and don'ts that go beyond the teachings of the Bible. The Watchtower, 4-15-02, pg 22, pp 15

As a JW, I really did believe in the life everlasting carrot held before the flock. I didn't worry about the various issues arguing against the fairy tale, thinking "Jehovah can do anything." Religion offers "faith" not "facts." Groups like the Watchtower go beyond the norm by using fear to control, so members will turn off critical thinking. Indeed--life everlasting on earth; how crazy, but I believed it! Watchtower fairy dust works when the brain doesn't.

Everlasting life for any one individual is not promised in the Bible. It is a fantasy, wishful thinking, because we do not wish to face the enemy death.

Isa 40:6 A voice says, "Call out." Then he answered, "What shall I call out?" All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is like the flower of the field.
Isa 40:7 The grass withers, the flower fades , When the breath of the LORD blows upon it; Surely the people are grass.
Isa 40:8 The grass withers, the flower fades , But the word of our God stands forever

However what can survive the dissolution of our flesh is our genes, our flesh lives on in our offspring. More than that, our instincts can live on and if you can believe it, memories can if you want to discover them.

    Amazing,

Really? Damn! I'll have to mark my calendar for that one and be sure I make good use of my remaining time left!
