Aron makes an important point that the quirkier facets of Witness beliefs are concealed from ordinary members of the public during the initial few calls, and only unveiled once the person has received a fair amount of "conditioning" to accept more palatable teachings - hence the reason books like Revelation Climax aren't normally offered on first call. The fact that a bible study needs to trawl through 157 pages of the Bible Teach book before the Witness views on holidays and celebrations is revealed illustrates this point perfectly.

In other words.......The JW's have to set the hook first, before they start to reel in the sucker fish, or it is more likely to free itself. Of course, we all know and were taught this, when bringing new people into this cult.

Da cheech said: " ask the lawyer if he will say that shunning is a myth under oath in a courtroom"

    Well, I think he would.

Three times (at my front door and in street work) in the past 18 months, I've pretended to ask out of curiousity whether the reports that the witnesses practise shinning were true, and 3 times I've been told it is not true.

So of course they are prepared to lie about it.

But more than that - the incidents tell me, that the ones I spoke to are quite embarrassed about the policy, otherwise why not come out and explain it. Maybe many witnesses have some problems understanding the practise.

But that's likely not unusual, its been my belief for a long time that 50% of witnesses do not understand doctrines of that organisation.

Truth, it seems, is not truth when it is inconvenient.

Excellent article. Everyone should go online G+, Facebook and Twitter it, so it gets picked up by larger news organizations. If WTBTS faces loosing tax exempt status $$$$ they will really sweat and it may force change.

They have no problem with rank and file members being raped, murdered, jailed, or dying....(Malawi, Nazis, Russia, Blood transfusions), but hit the Governing Body with taxes and they will make an about face.

leaving_quietlyJWs don't celebrate birthdays because the two mentioned in the Bible ended up with murder. Thus, because of the negative light on it, birthdays are avoided.

Apart from Job's children's "days" I can think of at least three birthdays in the Bible.

Go Aussies!! Excited and cautiously hopefully that the Aussies might help lead other governments to similar conclusions about the WTBTS.

Too bad they didn't mention that the WTBTS also promotes not reporting crimes like child molestation and abuse and religious bigotry. Promoting shunning, not reporting crimes, and religious bigotry has got to be at least three strikes against the WTBTS.

Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,

    Robert

There is another article , check it out. I can't seem to put the link in here, but it is easy to find by searching for jehovah's witnesses on the newspaper site.

When you are studying with a new person, the goal is to entice them.

lure them in, then when you hit the crunchy points they are already to take the rest.

you mention it and move on quickly to the next point.

    simple really.

    suckers always get sucked!.

I too ask about the shuning policy to the rank and file when I see them. They always say, "no". I always pull out my smart phone and show them this. http://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/faq/shunning/. I have them read aloud so everyone there knows they are lying and I walk away. Shuts em up and they clear out of the area.

@LeavingQuietly: The part where it says that JWs don't celebrate birthdays because it's not in the bible is not a quote from Aron. The quote from Aron starts with "There is no Moomba...."
