INTELLECTUAL HONESTY....what is it?

    Usually in organized religion in a ridged established theocracy, intellectual dishonesty is present for it necessitates the framework of the belief system.

    Usually we connect "honesty" with the capacity to admit things unpleasant which may cost us something to reveal.

    The old Parson Weems tale of George Washington, for example. "I cannot tell a lie...I chopped down that cherry tree."

    Even a "whistleblower" is often labeled as a betrayer and public opinion is, at best, mixed.

    With religious thinking the cardinal sin is "doubt". As though clinging hard and fast to something we find faulty is a virtue making the very act

    of applying reason and intelligence is socially awkward and suspect.

    This raises our comfort above the level of honesty...

    Our solidarity with the group above rational thought.

    "Go along to get along" is the motto of a moral coward.

    But, speaking truth to power is the salient test of our integrity as a sentient being!
