The other thread on the Judge Rutherfords death lead me to google Beth Sarim at 4440 Braeburn Rd., in San Diego Ca. Nice digs on Google Earth. The home next door is over $800,000 on Zillow and Trulia. Any locals who can tell us more about the place?
Does the WTBTS own it again...or possibly a current or EX JW?

I recall there was a clause on it that it should never be sold because it belonged to the Princes, but then it got sold - in the 1940's?
My recollection is vague until I can access some search tools.

Farkel and Leolaia have done some work on this. The ownership has changed a few times and there are still a few gaps. The current owners are not Witnesses.
"Here we find that Clayton W. Short and Frances B. Short were the caretakers of 4440 Braeburn Road, San Diego, California. This shows that by 1940, the Balkos had already moved away from Beth Sarim, replaced by the Shorts from New York City. Helpfully, the census asks where the individuals in question lived on 4/1/1935, where we see that the Shorts had earlier lived in NYC. This suggests that the Shorts were Bethelites relocated to Beth Sarim to replace the Balkos." (Leolaia quoting 1940 census).

Right near the front door there's a big, dark, metal oval-shaped placque that says "Beth-Sarim, Home of the Princes". It's a registered Historic Landmark in San Diego County.
I'm pretty sure you can see the placque on Google street view.
When my son and I visited a couple years ago and took a few disrespectful photos, there were people home and they didn't have the JW "vibe" at all. But you never know.

This is not a "middle class" house it is a mansion. There are photos of it TODAY

There is a photo of Rutherford in a top hat standing, in 1930,
in front of his 16 cylinder Cadillac convertible in front of the
huge three or four story mansion, in 1930 when people were literally
starving to death all over the world after the stock market crash,
it was the depths of the Great Depression, they built this mansion,
instead of opening soup lines and helping people in real need.
Many died of starvation in the USA
because it was before welfare existed.

I made it a point to stop there on a trip to CA last winter. I was just learning the TTATT and posted pictures to my Facebook asking if anyone recognized it. No bites. Beautiful property, took some great pics of the house done up for Xmas.
