    3. TRUE! At first Russell solicited donations under the pretension that the donators would neither die nor get sick "except by God's will". (*) When some did die the offer needed amending. But miraculous healings allegedly continued, including arthritics, deaf people, and even old persons restored to youth. (**) This was discontinued in the 1890s.

Interesting, I am still learning things about how cooky the religion is.

The Truth that Leads to Eternal Life 1969/1981 108,000,000

New World Translation (In whole or part) 1950s-2000 100,000,000

Amazing that they will have printed as many truth books in 20 years as bibles in over 50 years. Show's the emphasis is on their own words rather than the Bible.

How much of the ironically named "Truth" book would the WT now teach ? most of it has been deemed "old light" and replaced.

What a disgusting waste of trees and other resources, not to mention JW's wasted time in peddling this trash.

I think I might have one of the first edition Truth books with the arrow pointing to 1975. Why oh why didn't I wake up then, second or third edition arrow and 1975 gone

Great quiz Terry. On question #9. They may have taught no vaccinations between 1931-1952 but many JW keep that ban going on well into the 1960's. I know where I lived in Central IL my parents told me I could not have any vaccinations because the WT said so. I was born in 1954. I quess back then imformation was slower to get out into the farmland. Totally ADD

    Terry-

To answer your question about Beth-Sarim:

"From 1929 on, Brother Rutherford spent the winters working at a San Diego residence he had named Beth Sarim. Beth Sarim was built with funds that were a direct contribution for that purpose. The deed, which was published in full in "The Golden Age" of March 19, 1930, conveyed this property to J.F. Rutherford and thereafter to the Watch Tower Society".

Concerning Beth Sarim, the book "Salvation," published in 1939, explains: "The Hebrew words 'Beth Sarim' mean 'House of the Princes'; and the purpose of acquiring that property and building the house was that there might be some tangible proof that there are those on earth today who fully believe God and Christ Jesus and in His kingdom, and who believe that the faithful men of old will soon be resurrected by the Lord, be back on earth, and take charge of the visible affairs of earth." (Jehovah's Witnesses Proclaimers of God's Kingdom, 1993. p.76)

On March 15, 1930 in the San Diego Sun the following appeared: "San Diego Mansion--With All Modern Improvements--Awaits Earthly Return of Prophets."

    ---

it was completed prior to 1929 and Rutherford was living in it. It was deeded by 1930.

    Terry,

I like the way you've phrased question #1, but disagree with the answer provided.

As others, including Carl Olaf Jonsson have noted, it is difficult to pin down an exact year when the JWs began teaching that Christ's invisible presence started in 1914, because the change did not occur as a puntiliar event. What actually happened was a period of about three years where statements in JW literature were either, vague, ambiguous or contradictory.

So while it is true, as your source observes that the April 30th, 1930 issue of The Golden Age stated on page 503 that, "Jesus has been present since the year 1914", it is equally true that seven months later, the October 15th, 1930 issue of The Watch Tower stated on page 308 that, "The second advent of the Lord, Jesus Christ dates from about A.D. 1875 when he began to 'prepare the way before the Lord'."

What were they actually teaching here? Most JW's would consider the The Watch Tower to be more authoritive than The Golden Age on doctrinal matters.

The first clear, unambiguous reference to 1914 as the date for Christ's invisible presence in the entire corpus of JW literature occured on page 48 of the 1932 booklet, What Is Truth? The first clear, unambiguous reference in The Watchtower itself occured in the December 1, 1933 issue on page 362.

Its truly amazing how far this religion grew from the endeavorers of a couple of quack disingenuous and amateurish religious charlatans.

The fictitious doctrines these men created to support the proliferation of their published goods are now even more agonizing appalling.

Two things that helped this along is the public's own inherent ignorance of the bible itself and the extraneous pushing by the WTS.

leaders in promoting their literature as they kept pushing out the bullshit and the public just kept eating it up with little critical evaluation

as to why these doctrines were being proselytized as they subjectively were.

Its also interesting to note why the WTS. never mentions or vaguely mentions the past president of the WTS. W. Conley.

Even he eventually realized that he didn't want to be apart of this indentured scam and upon leaving Russell started to support another religious group.

    Thanks, TD.

i prepared the Quiz in WORD document and didn't cut and paste all of it. I cut off 1932 Word is Truth......

They still use the same technique of vagueness, ambiguity and contradiction, don't they? When radio-silence commences on a particular teaching which previously was prominent you can bet a dollar to a donut that a change is being considered that will eventually pop out the backside of the GB.

The other ironic and perhaps unfortunate thing is that there are people today who are actually shunning other people who

are aware and to coin a word opposed to the WTS. doctrines, which are strife with commercialized BS, supposedly supported by the bible.

To think that people such as myself walked away from this organization back in 1980 when there was no inter-net available

to explore and seek out information.

For this reason I see trouble ahead for the WTS., the days of pulling books and other pieces of literature off the shelves when the WTS.

thought it was time has past.

The WTS. history is now open for anyone to see and as its known its not a pretty picture.

The nuances of knowledge about unsavory tidbits in Watchtower History are lost upon the rank and file members.

They take the bait and swim away. The line running to the GB jerks them back and reels them in.

The rest of their life is spent frantically wiggling in the Watchtower creel gasping for life.
