As an elduh we were instructed to not say anything that old revel our "hand" before the JC and during. Because repentance needs to come from the heart and full disclosure would prove such, not holding anything back on behalf of the accused would indicate that. There was a scripture that was read almost all the time during the JC about covering of transgressions you wont succeed blah blah blah. This was read to indicate the seriousness of the meeting and to open the heart of the accused to reveal the transgression. I was never approached by anyone before the JC. However if I would see them, even right before the JC before the elduhs got together privately, I would on the say to them to read the insight book entry on repentance. I even brought an insight book to one young man right before he was to meet with us and said read it as quick as you can and try to display repentance.

The elduhs meet privately before the accused is brought forth, it's then where the evidence is talked about and cautions are mentioned about not revealing too much too soon. In my JC one elduh, a real company man boldfaced lied in order to extract a confession. I knew it was a lieand I knew my ex wife had told him about it. I had checked up on her story and it was a lie. She had said she went to the store and asked to see the CCTV footage of a certain date which showed me buying something. The elduh then said he had checked the CCTV tape and saw me buying it. But before this I asked the manager of the store to see if that was possible naïf it had indeed happened. Under no circumstances he said. Only the police can see it.

So as my example shows they can lie as part of theocratic warfare during a JC.

Best to just ignore and not go, why give them this inquistional power over you.

    Correction

As an elduh we were instructed to not say anything that...would reveal... our "hand" before the JC and during.

    Blondie,

It was always customary to write a report to include in the congos files, the "sin" was written down. Perhaps this practice has changed?

“…does the person under scrutiny have the right to ask beforehand what evidence will be adduced against him and what witnesses will be called? In other words is there pre-trial disclosure within the Watchtower's quasi legal process?”

    Short answer: No.

For those compelled to attend a Watchtower-sponsored judicial hearing, there is a recommendation I make to address this very thing. In short, I recommend the attendee to ask for a continence after hearing evidence against them in order to prepare a proper defense.

There is much more—including preparation documents—in my blog article titled Judicial Committee Preparation available at: http://marvinshilmer.blogspot.com/2012/03/judicial-committee-preparation.html

As far as I know they still put a report on it with the name of the person, date of event (rest inside). You have to realize that the elder in charge of the files differs from congregation to congregation as to how well they do this and keep the confidentiality. It is not supposed to be entertaining reading for all the elders, past, present and future. A statistical form was sent to headquarters.

As to saying anything beforehand, my husband said you were to let the person know that this was not just a shepherding call. Not that elders don't try to play games lying. Good slavenomore by not being intimidated by that lie. Rev 21:8 says liars are friers. Evidently they aren't believing that God is concerned. "God has left the land and he is not seeming.:

A committee is not really a fact-finding body so much as it is a coercive instrument enforcing conformity at all costs.

Realize that and you're halfway home.

If you put your hand in a meat grinder your hand will become ground meat. That is what the meat grinder is for.

How would you prepare "properly" for a meat grinder? There is no dialogue possible and no justice or appeal.

    Have no illusions!

You SHALL CONFORM to the expectations of the Elders and the Society as a whole or you will be ground meat!

You can't out argue, out persuade, out plead or outsmart this instrument for enforcing conformity.

What you have to BE is totally innocent.

How many people in a Kingdom Hall are ever "that": innocent?

If you want to escape and fade you have to do it intelligently by firm decision. Otherwise, you will be detected....eventually.

To fade properly you need to be called out of town on confidential family business.

    You disappear.

Most people who get themselves disfellowshipped are in denial.

Like a criminal who wants to be caught they psychologically position themselves where it all comes down on them eventually and

the decision is MADE FOR THEM.

Jehovah's Witnesses intend for you to declare LOYALTY and SOLIDARITY and you cannot escape by subterfuge unless you are very evasive and lucky.

I just sent you a message Ann, before I saw this.

I should clarify I am not currently under threat of a committee (as far as I know anyway!) this thread was just out of interest.

Thanks especially to Marvin and slavenomore for the informative responses - and blondie and everyone else too!

Never got to know my accuser(s) officially till date! I personally approached someone I thought was my principal antagonist to avoid animiosity that could result from feeling betrayed, but she denied and gave a list of persons she felt were potential accusers, bottomline, she listed a good number of persons I or my girlfriend thought were our friends. Also, the elders did do a good deal of lying, and they insisted on my not keeping notes when they could. Also, when I appealled, they asked if I kept copies of the appeal leter! Had to get thru a humilating process of SSS-type, Gestapo-styled interrogation just because of family and love, and still I got the boot! Wished I just simply didn't go, wished I never gave them those powers over me!

Anyway, rant over. I'd suggest, if you don't have paddies on the JC, or your chances are slim, just don't go!

"He wrote a letter asking for the accusation in writing, evidence against him and names of the accusers and gave a copy to each elder."

Way to go, Newly Enlightened's smart friend!
