    quote from seedy3
"The shunning is given to a person at a time when they areoften at their lowest pointin life, I have seen so many people that were depressed at the time of their DF'ing or became depressed due to it. These one often need the support of their friends and family, but are hencforth cut off from among them, it is as stupid a rule and can be."

About that going into another church thing:
My brother is catholic and is getting married in a church soon. If I last that long in the bOrg, thats when i'll make my stand. He came to my wedding so I will go to his. I'll probably get DF'd for it, cause I already talked to elders about it and they said it was considered getting into babalyon the great. Dog returning to its own vomit kinda thing. That is a rule that tears people apart.

BEING 'advised' NOT TO ATTEND MY MOTHERS' funeral AS IT WAS IN A CHURCH.MY MOTHERS FUNERAL.

BEING TOLD BY CONVENTION TOILET MONITORS THAT I WAS NOT TO FLUSH FOR A PEE; AND HAVING THE DOOR BANGED WITH A FIST TO SHOUT AT ME TO HURRY UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!She nearly got punched.

BEING 'INVITED' TO SAID CONVENTION, THEN IGNORED BY ALL FOR THREE DAYS.

Isn't the WTBTS guilty of "returning to it's own vomit" by being in bed with the UN for ten years. I would think that Jehovah would've DF'd them then but that probably happened long ago.

The flood of phone calls you had to suffer through if you missed just ONE meeting. (How are you, where were you, what happened?)

Truthseeker1, there is NO doubt that you should attend that wedding. I've heard of some Witnesses being wary of entering a church, but I've never heard of someone being DF'd for it. That's ridiculous. I worked for a while as a wedding photographer with a Witness (great guy, too) and we entered churches all the time. This is a prime example of getting lost in the rituals. As Fire Dragon would say, it's like the Pharisees making the Israelites wash up to their elbows seven times or whatnot.

Termite, this is horrible. They had NO right to "advise" this. How sick! Tell us, did you go? (I certainly hope so.)

Thanks, everybody, for some great -- and hilariously accurate -- replies!

When I was dating a brother in my congregation our parents made ridiculous 'scriptural' rules for our dating:

We could only go in field service together in a car group of five. (How many car groups have five people?!)

We could talk on the phone for 30 minutes a week.

We could not go out in public or to a gathering without 8 (count them - eight) chaperones.

We could write letters to one another but only one 1page letter per week each.

Our parents said that one day we would thank them for this...I looked at my mother and said, 'No, I will never thank you for what you are doing to us.' I was right...neither of us ever appreciated it.

Fire Dragon - we had the same parents!

my curfew was 9pm and i could only go if i took my little brother and sister with me. grrr. (that was until my stepdad came along...he was cool...he'd always whisper to me that he'd leave a window open 'til 1am)

my mom wouldn't let me watch FLINSTONES cuz they were cavemen.
    (i never understood that)

or ROADRUNNER cuz of the constant "reincarnation" of wiley.

    RULES SCHMULES.

    Hey Spaz,
If we have the same parents boy do I feel sorry for you! LOL Heck, I feel sorry for me!

Your mom probably didn't let you watch The Flintstones because if you acknowledge that they are cavemen and that means you support evolution.
My mom wouldn't let me watch the Smurfs because of the majic and I couldn't watch Speed Racer (one of my favs) because the theme song said 'he's a demon on wheels'. Now is that 'too much' or what?!
