I use an old IBM Model M keyboard and the key caps come off and pop back on so I clean my keyboard that way. I heard of people putting them in dishwashers but since they don't make these keyboards anymore I'm not going to risk messing this keyboard up, even though I have one put away for backup, lol.

Yes I wouldn't recommend it, unless you have some untoward growth occurring.
If a particular key is being stubborn you can carefully pry off the cap, remove the debris and snap it back on.
Usually the problem is caused by eating while using the keyboard. A tiny cracker crumb can be a problem.
Another solution is to leave the computer on over night, leaving the mouse on the keyboard. During the night the mouse will eat all the crumbs and it will be ready to go.
I keep a box of medi wipes by the keyboard of the home computer, to wipe down the keyboard occasionally. Also some antibacterial hand gel next to the computer for hands.
I'm more concerned about my iPad screen, I'm not sure how to clean it. Or the iPhone. I'm sure they are full of germs.

I have switched to a Kindle, just a quick wipe and it's clean. I can do most things on it, except for photo editing and web site work.

I use a couple of them for a vivarium. They work quite well although they're hard to type on and you can wash them no problem in a dishwasher. If they break, you throw them out, simple as that.
Remember the old saying, Never clean another man's monitor by licking your finger", could apply to keyboards too I guess. ;)
