Well Joel, I am sure there ARE evil people within the org, just as there are evil people everywhere. I have seen some people use the rules and beliefs of the JW's to their own advantage. Case in point is the rule that you don't sue your brothers! Seen a lot of people taken advantage of my unscrupulous people with this one!
I am at this time being shunned by my sisters at a time in my life where I could really use some family support. Instinctively I dislike my sisters for what they are putting myself and my daughter through, but intellectually I believe that this is just as painful for them. They have been taught that this is the right thing to do to "save" my life.
Well ok my sister Shirley probably is just EVIL, but that is a whole other story....and I think she was born that way and left on our doorstep...
What would be evil, however, is finding out that the group and its teachings are all lies and still continuing to give it our full support. That's evil. That's hypocrisy.
Yes.... and No. It's a premise that is worth thinking about but I suspect it's not as simple as all that. I'm sure there are some who stick within the Borg because of family commitments.
Imagine someone who has all their family in the Borg. To leave the borg would threaten the very fabric of their family, as we're aware from experiences we've heard about or read about. I can only imagine the anguish that such ones must be feeling.
Cheers, Ozzie
"If our hopes for peace are placed in the hands of imperfect people, they are bound to evaporate."
Yes, I think you get my point exactly. Evil exists independent of the Watchtower Society. Evil is what is bad. The Watchtower Society, like all groups, does good and bad things. We as individuals do good and bad things. Good is good and bad is bad.
First, a working definition of “evil” would be nice.
Second, you said that, “evil exists independent of the Watchtower Society.” That’s not entirely true. Evil is not a roaming presence. It’ a condition that exists in many places simultaneously. Imo, evil does exist within the WTS.
You said: “We as individuals do good and bad things.” I agree. Good and bad by degrees. Not all “bad” things are evil. And just because we once beleived some stupid things does not mean we are/were evil. Just stupid.
Haven't you heard? All humans are evil to God, since Adam ate that fruit. We have all this bad stuff happen to us, then we die because we are evil. Haven't you read your bible?
Now you can be righteous though, just accept Jesus, but all the bad stuff still happens and you still die just like always.
For me, I became a JW because I was simply *ignorant* and I *trusted* somebody to show me the way. I was raised to believe it. You can raise a child to believe just about anything. As soon as I was able to see what the Watchtower was, I left.... because I didn't want to be involved with the evil the JWs were doing.
The Watchtower Society, like all groups, does good and bad things.
Joel, been reading Bubba Bush's Tractatus Philosophicus again? The Watchtower Society, like all inanimate things, does neither good nor bad. I can kill a person with a gun but the gun is not evil. In the WTS, like in all groups, there are people who do good things most of the time and people who do bad things most of the time.
