Why so paranoid?

Just a quick question. There are so many on this forum, who have been inactive for quite a number of years, who haven't seen the inside of a Kingdom Hall in a long time, or have not seen hide or hair of their former brethren, still, they go online incognito, fearing they will be seen. WHY?

I mean, if you've been gone that long, who cares, if someone recognizes you? Or if people find out you no longer believe as you did?

I use to be the same way, then I thought, who care? I haven't asociated with these people in ten years, who cares what they think now. My JW family knows whwt I do, and despite never having been DF'd, they still treat me like a leper, though saying nothing of my wherabouts and activities.

I use to avoid the questions, "are you a JW?" "Were you ever a JW?", you know there are ways around that questions, without really lying. But now I tell them the truth.

I can see where you are coming from if indeed your family already treats you like a leper. But there are many that have been disfellowshipped regardless of how many years they have been out of "the tr00f". For many of us we do not want to sever ties with the ones that are witnesses in our lives and by getting disfellowshipped for many it would become a reality.
