WT Website Puts Up Articles On Molestation!

The listings below are a new offering from the Watchtower Website. It seems the brothers have developed a real concern for putting up every article ever written about child abuse. I appreciate this greatly as it helps the public to see the great deficiency of Watchtower Policy. As you read these articles you will note many fine comments regarding how to detect and find out if your child is abused, yet the points that should scream off the page of each and every article is what they do not say. As you review this material I suggest you look for the following:

1. If your child is molested you have the right to call the police first and should do so.
2. While several real life examples were given, can you find one where the parents involved the legal authorities? Would that not be a “good” example to use?
3. Strong support for professional help in counseling the child. Any examples given? Why would a therapist be forced to agree with all tenants of a religion before being able to offer counseling to a molested child?
4. Any suggestion as to how others in the congregations would be warned about a child molester.
5. Any directive given to parents as to their rights to warn other parents in the congregation
6. Any suggestion that a confessed child molester would be prevented from calling on the homes of the public.

I encourage you to try and find the above points in the fifty some pages of material written on how all Jehovah’s Witnesses are to directly handle child molestation. As you review this material you might also wish to ask why the Awake article of 10-8-91 is not referred to in anyway? Could it be the Awake article said something the Society wanted to avoid? In the listed articles what is not said is the reason children are being hurt by Watchtower Policy.

Thanks for your laborious work Bill. Yeah, why have they now posted these articles on their site? To give the impression to the R&F that their on top of things? Claim their innocence?

The question that needs asking is, why didn't they take care of this matter when it first started? The very fact that they have 23,720 child molesters on file means they were negligent and irresponsible. The numbers themselves condemn them. These 23,720 didn't spring up over night.

I got expelled for not 'attending meetings' during my judical hearing! How many others got expelled for lack of mercy and compassion and yet no mention of these sexual criminals 'freely' roaming in the presence of innocent children? Were there ever any notice of caution coming from the organization, elders and material for families to beware of pedophiles in the congregation?

So much for this obedience to Superior Powers that they tell us to follow when they withhold the names of these pedophiles which certain States require you report them!

I'm looking forward to the 'spin' that the org. is going to use for being purposely negligent and irresponsible.

I read the first few articles. They did omit the things you said, however, they did give excellent advice regarding educating your children in resisting abusers, etc.

was absolutely terrible!

It suggested that memories can be false. This is true, but the whole article slants towards "prove it or we won't act". The word memories is always in inverted commas, as though they are not really memories. Then they say that if you want to accuse someone you have to confront them face to face. Oh! so an abused child will do that?
It was disgusting. As you say, they then say that the congregation provide support. Well apart from not believing you and making you confront your abuser, they also dont advise you to get professional help or to contact the authorities! What about a physical examination of the child to look for evidence of abuse?

I think it is good the Society is at least making an effort to highlight these articles. Emphasis needs to be placed on the parents role in preventing child abuse. IMO, this is the single greatest thing that can be done for children and it is the parents that have the primary role in protecting children.

While I personally remain unconvinced or unclear on many of the changes you are seeking, I do agree with number 6. I feel the Society using their ministry as a way to keep their members occupied or as a way for wrongdoers to show repentance is not acceptable. Convicted molesters should not ever be allowed to go door to door and accused members should be suspended from such activities until the matter is resolved.

People really need to meet certain qualifications if they are to represent an organization in the public, and we all know that many should not be permitted, if for the simple reason they are incompetent and an embarrassment to the organization.

Or perhaps the one accused will confess, and a reconciliation may be achieved. What a blessing that would be! If there is a confession, the two elders can handle matters further in accordance with Scriptural principles.

If the accusation is denied, the elders should explain to the accuser that nothing more can be done in a judicial way. And the congregation will continue to view the one accused as an innocent person. The Bible says that there must be two or three witnesses before judicial action can be taken.

Even if more than one person "remembers" abuse by the same individual, the nature of these recalls is just too uncertain to base judicial decisions on them without other supporting evidence. This does not mean that such "memories" are viewed as false (or that they are viewed as true).
