Nope because you don't actually do public speaking if you're a sister. You have a scripted conversation. Public speaking skills are a very different set of skills. I'm a teacher, and am always speaking in front of people but that doesn't automatically mean I can speak publicly. I'd say Jw men develop public speaking skills because they actually do present a speech of sorts to a crowd of people. It's to do with the relationship between the speaker and listeners as well as the ability to use gestures, structure a text and use verbal features.

Yes, I think it certainly helped me.. Public speaking is evidently one of the most, or the most, feared things to do. Whilst I was always nervous, but having started from an age of 12, doing the fake sermons etc to another person, it did give me a confidence that I developed further in High School. Subsequently when I went to Uni, had no problems with presentations, and then national and international conferences in Health. I was then a Nursing Educator/Adult Educator and enjoyed postive feedback. The only shame was, the MS did not teach me to think, or to reason or to question.. However, that came later...

Iám not a lady, but I can tell you at least there is one thing good with the Theocratic school, everyone who attends for a few years does got a rather good skills in public talking. I quited 10-15 years ago, and after that I got jobs that included much public talking. These jobs would never been offered to me if I hadn´t been trained in TeoSc. In fact the very first "speach" I gave was in KH. I was so nervous that I totally blancked out and went back to my seat saying absolutely nothing. But after a few years training I was able even to held speaches for people numered to over 6000. The only sad thing is that my manuscript was written by the Watcht. org. And that 6000 people had to listen to su much crap..

No. I hated TMS. I refused to join for any significant length of time. I think I did maybe one of two demonstrations (I would not define them as "talks") . Any skill I acquired in public speaking was because of school or in the workplace.

I don't think it honed any 'speaking skills' for me, but it did help me overcome my shyness to speak publicly. I never took speech classes in highschool because of shyness, and I used to stutter a bit out of anxiety. Disturbing strangers in their homes to hawk magazines helped too, lol.
I always had to write my own parts in TMS - never saw a 'script', was just given a subject, theme and setting. I thought it was no more scripted than the brothers talks, but maybe I was wrong?

No not really....I was very good at writing and the TMS nurtured that skill, but I am shy and reserved with a soft-spoken voice....and I find in the college life that when I have to do class presentations I am just as nervous and my words still to not come out the same as I have written on paper (same as when I was a dub).
There are people who are "naturally" talented in the public speaking department and excell at that, I see it in college as well as when I was a JW.

No. I learned public speaking in school; gave speeches, made presentations, etc.
TMS was more like doing a small skit in a play than public speaking.
