You don’t even have to take a close look at the ranks of Jehovah’s Witnesses to see that their “worldwide unity” has indeed led to the “stifling of individuality” and the “crushing of initiative.” Their cult does not foster, nurture or promote either of these things. The organization intrudes into every aspect of a person’s life, even the most intimate and private ones. Upon presenting themselves for baptism, candidates are required to pledge fealty to the “spirit-directed” organization. That says all anyone needs to know about how individuality is viewed by the leadership. They don’t want it.

"He's too smart for the truth".

You don't want that statement to be said about you, now do you?

This video sums up the GB's view of independant thought pretty good. The logic will blow you away.

Isn't it strange that even in elementary school independent thought receives praise? If you copy and paste an article and submit it as your own work, you will be expelled. People turned on Rick Santorum's slighting of a college education. Santorum, a lawyer earning a consemurate salary, warned of the dangers of education. In fact, polls show education increases faith.

The WT are far to the right of Santorum. My mother planted the love of education with me.

Think about what Jehoover loses by not having competent people. Is there a Good Housekeeping Award or reviews of best religoius idiots?

It is very sad. No one I know now would ever become a Witness. Sad.

There were very bright people in surrounding KHs. People with many talents. In fact, they were often very meek and at odds with the overseer and Bethel. I recall one man trying so hard. Such people rarely become JW leaders. Frankly, I notice the difference between an urban and more rural area here. Compliant people are welcome here. Don't rock the boat.

Diversity is good. Every talent should be used to serve God. I could never discuss books or interests with the Witnesses. When I was fourteen, I became a candystriper to get a nursing school scholarhsip. The uniform was the big draw. Strangers were so impressed with my service. My mom had to break it to me that I could never mention my sin at KH. I cried. Later, I had to telephone and explain why I was forced to stop. How do you explain how "worldly" you are when you can't even look people in the eye for fear.

My conversation with an elder regarding independent thinking (which I was accused of doing).

    Q. Didn't Charles Taze Russell have independent thinking when he broke from traditional Christian teachings?

    A. No he was guided by holy spirit.

    Q. How do you know it was holy spirt that guided his thoughts?

    A. Because he was sincerly seeking truth. And he had the right heart condition. Unlike Chrisendom of that time, who were corrupt.

    Q. What about all the CTR teachings that were unbiblical. For example his books on pyramidology. Were they independent thoughts?

    A. Um ... let me think about that one. I'll do some research for you.

    Q. What about all those brothers in the first century who gave up their Jewish faith to follow Jesus. They obviously had independent thought?

    A. Look brother <biometrics> what are you trying to prove? Have you been reading any apostate material? Because those people have an axe to grind.

    End of conversation.

Vote with your feet. Leave. What did Jesus say about kicking the dust from your feet?

I don't want to ask my mother about it. Unless she happens to send me the magazine again, which is unlikely unless I ask!

She has been a JW since 1983. Almost immediately after leaving my dad and us kids. My dad always told us bad things about JWs.

I thought he just hated her and wanted her to look bad. Which is probably true anyway. So when I contacted her three years ago, she asked if she could send me a book. It turned out to be the Bible Teach book, and I was curious, so I studied it with her. At first it was exciting, learning something new. And for a year or so I was all into it. Then I started looking for Kingdom Melodies on YouTube, I think it was before I realized I could get them on the official website.

I got to a point where it was showing links to videos made by former witnesses. Curiosity once again got the better of me, and I found a whole new world. According to these people, the JWs would shun even a family member for something as simple as smoking. I smoke! And there was one about a disappearing Elder book. Many many more about how much it is a cult and whatnot.

I am not going to the meetings or studying any more. I was never baptised. I still let my mom study the Jeremiah book with me sometimes. But I usually find an excuse not to.

I found this forum site, and thought I'd pop in and see what info I could get.

    My name is Rose. :)
