It looks like Candce's lawyer is pulling the same thing WTBT$ does. Respondant did not file their brief on time:

Wednesday, June 12 is the last day to file the brief given the missed deadline. Look for something by then.

The Court gave this kind of extra stretch for WTS last time. So would seem Candace Conti can do the same. Anyway, the interest is accruing the longer this case drags out. I suspect this "Appeals" part could go till the end of this year at least?

Delaying the case and increasing the costs is a tactic of lawyers. This is the usual scenario. Conti's case is unique and raises many impt legal questions that will need an appellate opinion. Churches and sexual abuse survivors are watching around the country.

It takes a long, long time to prepare a decent brief. When you read one, it may seem so obvious. It is not. Months of writing and deciding what to stress go into the actual writing. The hardest part is the summary of facts. It has to be true in the record. Writing it is an art form. Junior lawyers are often assigned portions of the legal arguments to draft. A senior lawyer has to write the facts summary. It is an art form. The facts presentation sets up the legal portion.

B/c so much is new territory they don't have canned briefs. Future clients may want to read these briefs for help in selecting a lawyer.

I always wrote until 4 or 5 am, though, to make a deadline.

I knew they had at least 2 weeks until the deadline, because WTBT$ missed theirs also. Then when they did finally submit it it was too large for the clerk's office.

It says the Respondants Brief was filed on the 6/6/13.

Anyone know if we're able to read it somewhere?
