Mum I visited a Holiness Church several times as a teen with a friend and her family. I was from the same general area as you said in your post. I remember it being very loud too. At first it was almost scary!

Hi, nonjwspouse. I was scared every minute at my grandpa's church. At home, my grandparents were hardworking, quiet, gentle folks, but they went crazy (or it seemed so to me) at church. I felt vulnerable because they were somewhere else!

My FIL would offer the admonition of "help those who fall short" The children would always giggle imagining a guy with shorts around his ankles. He would also thank Jah for "the loving hands that prepared this mea" I always appreciated this sweet gesture toward the women.

Once in a congregation in SE Kentucky, a brother prayed for "forgiveness for our fallin' shorts."

My pops always made sure he gave the longest possible dinner prayer possible - probably just to piss us off while we had to sit and be hungry as we smelled the food.

He once literally recounted the entire story of Job in a dinner prayer. Why? No clue. He was a batsh*t insane animal.
