Something better than Xmas

Saw the title of this recent Watchtower and it reminded me of the standard response to B'days and Xmas celebrations:

"We don't limit giftgiving to a specific day, we give gifts ALL year round!"

B'shit. Did anyone growing up a JW get gifts all year round?

I do remember that as a family for a while we had our own 'holiday' as such, called 'present day' - which was on the date of my parents wedding anniversary. It felt a little odd, and fizzled out before long.

I also remember when I first left JWs at the age of 21 - I had virtually no contact with JW's or my family. On my first birthday out of the org I recieved a sms from my mother - it said "Happy ****day."

It actually made me angry - the concept that blotting out part of the word made it okay. Obviously my mother just wanted an excuse to contact me and was most likely hurting from the arbitory rules of of the watchtower,

Every birthday since, I check my phone all day, hoping for even a censored sms from my mother - but nine birthdays have passed now and I haven't recieved another. =(

Ya we had the same thing on my parents anniversary. We called it Happy Day. It fizzled out quickly too.

Non dubs give gifts all year long too. So...... Another non point made by Watchtower.

This week at our meeting we were advised that our call in phone line would become secure and anyone who needs to use it will have to have a PIN number to access it. I tried to find out why this was so. To no avail of course. We are always told things but never the reason behind it. Does anyone know anything about this? and has it happened to any other congs? Someone suggested its due to apostates listening in, I doubt that besides active publishers/apostates like myself can pass on info talked about at KH or anywhere else for that matter on forums such as this. Maybe the boys in Brooklyn need to read what i have said if apostates are the problem. Their Kingdom Halls are full of them haha hilarious

Lozza, it's so only 'approved' publishers can listen in. We had a pin when my husband got sick and couldn't leave the house for months. They assign you a pin, because they want to maintain control over who listens in, and because they want as many people as possible to come to the actual hall. An elder told me they do it to encourage people to come to the hall and to discourage people getting slack and listening over the phone rather than getting 'upbuilding association'.

I never got presents all year round!! Yes I know they would say "we don't need a special occassion to spoil our loved ones or to remember them, or to show that we love them"

When I left, my first birthday out was celebrated in Paris - the big 30. Every year I celebrate my own - sometimes going large with the "Pink is the New Black", or "Mad Hatters Tea" party theme, or it's quite - but we celebrate.

I love getting and giving presents. Or on mothers' day, I'll wake up and do whatever my mum wants for breakfast, plus the washing, plus make her tea all day.

I never had Jw family and so to them xmas and birthdays meant something. I would always buy them gifts around xmas time, and I would buy something nice for everyone whenever I went on a holiday, which was at least once a year. It made my family feel happy and loved. I apologised to my mum this mother's day for 16 years of being a douchebag to her.

I remember being told as a kid that we don't need holidays since we have assemblies, which are like living in paradise..........
