Good stuff. Repentence, yes. Ties in with some religions, last rites before death etc.

It may very well have been the strength of the Jewish democratic institution created by the Pharisees that Jesus felt so threatened by to continually hammer on them the way the Gospels record events. To proclaim the keepers of The Torah as hypocrits is laughable. Had it not been for the educational efforts of the Pharisees Jesus would have been born into a Judiasm that knew little of the Torah and Talmud.

It was the Pharisees who proclaimed- 'Unto all are given the Kingdom, the Priesthood, and the Heritage'. 150 years before Jesus comes on the scene the Pharisees wrote- 'Take upon yourself the yoke of the Kingdom of God; let the fear of God be your judge and guide; and deal with one another according to the dictates of love'.

Christianity needed to blame someone or group for the loss of their leader and the 'Christ Killers' became the rally call that took the lives of millions of Jews.

The Wt. leadership like the earlier Catholics and Protestants needed to exalt themselves by condemning others for secular or religious 'sins' as they defined things. Condeming others to eternal loss of salvation is a great way to get your followers roused up for your particular cause.
