I think Oracle is massively overpriced for what it does. Give me SQL Server anyday!
Oracle is also a right pig to use and SO outdated (clunky tools)
I bet there must be several cheap 'generic' "REPORT GENERATOR" out there that can handle oracle db. I think a report/list is all you need.
You all are blasphemous, that's why oracle doesn't work for you.
Look at what happened to anyone who did the same to the WT oracle.
Simon: Over priced is right! What's an SQL Server? By the way, I sent you an E-mail as to why my hyperlinks are opening up in thumbnail size. Thought you might know so I can correct.
Plmkrzy: That's OK. I don't either. Thanks for responding though.
COMF: Yes, we have an overworked in-house I.T. Dept. The Company is 2,000 strong worldwide with an IT Dept. of 7 running it here from Corp Hdqtrs; 3 of which are management. Bad decision? You bet made by an Exec Vice Pres of Finance (since fired) and Director of I.T. Dept. (since terminated because he had a nervous breakdown) and a Committee who was clueless. IT is so busy correcting the problems with the payroll, financing reports, and getting our Dubai office online that HR's needs are placed at the bottom of the pile. We are just now after 4 years getting them to help us run off AAP (Affirmative Action Plan) information. Why? Because we have an EEO audit coming up!!! That's what it takes to get our name to the top of the list. I.T. wants us to hire a person in our Dept. to handle our Oracel database but our Pres. won't approve any new hires.
Sigh.... I wanna a new job. I wanna work out of my house...for myself. Sigh
Trot...trying to

Poor foxy. I sympathize.
The best decision your president could make, would be to hire a certified Oracle DBA and a couple of software developers to write the reports. Too bad they're so clueless. I feel your pain, having worked for some technological vaporheads before.

PS. SQL Server (pronounced "Sequel Server") is Microsoft's answer to Oracle. It's their big database product. Although I've never worked with Oracle, I have about seven years experience with SQL Server.
