I totally agree with Terry concerning the first cenutry apostles. They were no better or worse than we are. Not only the canonical accounts but also the noncanonical sources and legends testify to it. I love that they are flawed b/c I am flawed. Magic hocus pocus never exists.
American history's giants are also very human. Most of the big myths are complete lies. They were not giants. I feel this should encourage us. REgular people doing regular things can sometimes do extraordinary things. Perhaps the JW perfection myth is why I love reading the very personal accounts.
I am skeptical about many things in the Bible. Sometimes, however, I comes across a so human story that makes no sense. Why would any author conjure up such a zany character? Perhaps b/c it truly happened and no agenda is present.
