That's one. You also have the god/human dual nature of both characters. They both function as a savior of humanity. It's a pretty interesting subject.

What was so hilarious, my sister said her minister did not
read from the bible or make reference to it the whole sermon.
She said my minister really knows Surperman and the other
characters.

Barrold: An minister on CNN today, no comparison. Jesus came
to save all of mankind, Superman came to save mankind from the evil
(don,t know the evil characters) people.

That's one minister's opinion. There's been quite a lot written on the topic. Here's some lines from some Superman movies. Here's the first one from the original '78 movie.
Jor-el (Superman's dad): They can be a great people, Kal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you... my only son.
Here's one from Jor-El again, in Man of Steel: You will give the people an ideal to strive towards. They will race behind you, they will stumble, they will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders.
You can easily see similarities between this and what Jesus did, leaving an example. Also note the concept that both are 'only sons.'

There is a company, Grace Hill Media, founded by a former sitcom writer and Warner Bros publicist, that markets secular Hollywood films to churches.
Superman Returns (2006) had a similar campaign. Any film that has a potential to be interpreted to have a message of faith is marketed this way.
Superman has always had a messianic theme/interpretation, it was not accidental or unique to the films. Man of Steel the first time to my knowledge, that Kal is 33 years old when he presents himself to mankind, in the 78 film he was 30. There is also the 'Gethsemane' scene that I think is unique to this film as well. Both this film and the prior one featured the 'outstretched arms' imagery.

I read an article about Warner Bros. promoting "Man of Steel" (new movie) to Church groups. They even have a website with sermons in PDF. Any Elders or MSs willing to work a little Superman into your next talk?

PS The new Superman movie is good btw, I give it a 7.5 out of 10.

Superman was created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, high school students living in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1933.
I have always wondered if Siegel (or Shuster) used the hebrew word El (Jor-El, Kal-El) intentionally. How much of an influence was Nietzsche?
Why so much Christian iconology?
I'd love to read Leolaia's thoughs on Superman.
