Falling asleep whilst praying..

When I believed in Jehovah(TM), I'd pray to him at night. I'd doze off.

I remember admonition from the podium that it was disrespectful to doze off during our personal prayers to imaginary sky god Jehovah(TM).

I'd wake up. Say sorry to Jehovah(TM) then either carry on grovelling or just end it.

One thing's for sure, asleep or awake, pray or not it makes no difference........no one's listening!

I'd often fall asleep while praying too. In fact, it's a pretty good antidote for insomnia.

Rocketman - I think all things JW related induce coma.

HA! HA! I used to fall asleep all of the time during my prayers. It bothered me terribly but i couldn't help it! Now, I look back and laugh at this.

If you pray at night, in bed, before sleep, then falling asleep during prayer is going to happen. I have drifted off, then woken up and asked myself... 'wait, am I still praying?' God is aware that part of the weakness in this body is the need for sleep, and sometimes it overtakes us.

I assume that many pray at other times as well, where you don't fall asleep (or at least when you used to pray you did this).

God knows what we need as it is, even without us asking.

    Peace,

This is exactly what has happened to Jehovah. All those billions of boring prayers lulled him into unconsciousness.

    He has not since awakened.

I always thought that admonition made Jehovah look like a tyrant. It's disrespectful to fall asleep while praying to him. Really?

I thought he was a loving God, all knowing and understanding, who can hear my unuttered pleadings. He must already KNOW my butt is tired from trying to keep up with a busy spiritual/secular schedule, I am sure he understands if I trail off and fall asleep. But then I guess the WTBS would equate that to: "Would you nod off during a conversation with a King?" Which is so confusing, why would you compare the highest being in the Universe to a mere human king who is imperfect and may lop my head off just because he can...? I thought Jehovah was better than that...circular reasoning back to being a loving God.

    But I digress.

I saw it as another way the WTBS wanted to control ALL aspects of our lives. HOW DARE they interefere with something this personal and try to guilt me about my prayers!

I still fall asleep while praying, but now I won't worry about it because Terry brought up a good point. God doses off too.

I am sure there was a QFR on this "issue". How pathetic is that!
