"In a similar way, at the beginning of the 20th century, there were a number of wrong expectations among true Christians regarding “the last days.” (2 Tim. 3:1) For instance, in the year 1914, some thought that their being taken to heaven was imminent. When their hopes were not immediately realized, an earnest reexamination of the Scriptures brought into focus that a great preaching campaign lay ahead." p.14

Yup, it was their wrong expectations, not the fact that we printed this bullshit up as true.

'Hence, in 1922, J. F. Rutherford, who then took the lead in the preaching work, told those assembled at the in ternational convention at Cedar Point, Ohio, U.S.A.: “Behold, the King reigns! You are his publicity agents. Therefore advertise, advertise, advertise, the King and his kingdom.”' p.14,15

Hence, we lied some more and set a new date, 1925, but you'll never know - we provided you this quote with no context.

Another blatant misrepresentation of the facts of the Bible Students belief is "For instance, in the year 1914, some thought that their being taken to heaven was imminent."

ALL followers of Russell (from the late 1870's until 1914) held to the belief that they would be taken away ('in the twinkling of an eye' - 1 Corinthians 15:52) to heaven to rule under Jesus as princes/priests. Every local home group (ecclesia) studied this in their current WT's and the Studies in the Scriptures.

By using the term 'some' the WT implies that there were only a few that held to this belief and these individuals (weak in the faith) had 'wrong expectations' about 1914.

Yup and when 2014 has gone, any expectations that something might have happened by then, and yet nothing has, will force " an earnest re-examination of the scriptures".

Fast forward to January 2035, when nothing has happened during 2034, and it will all be down to the R&F JW's being too darn eager.

Nothing will be said about how the WT has hollered for years that the end is "Sooooo close".

Meanwhile millions of lives are being wasted serving this shameless bunch of scammers.

BREAKFAST of CHAMPIONS- Good thread. The GB and WT writing committee just keeps putting off the alleged " Armageddon " with quotes like " wrong expectations among true Christians about the " last days. " " Stuff like this pisses me off so much. WT leaders are too dishonest to EVER admit they were wrong or have faults at all or accepting any blame or responsibility for their false predictions. Typical cult mentality- it's the followers that are mistaken and wrong, not the cult leaders.

One reason I started the 1975 thread I have going. Probably similar reason you started this one. To inform people of how they try to hide their history and mistakes just like Big Brother did in the book 1984. Incredible the scam these WT leaders keep trying to pull. And they keep getting away with it

    Same old same old:

    *** w90 10/15 p. 19 par. 20 Be Thankful—Jehovah’s Messianic Kingdom Rules ***
For 38 years prior to 1914, the Bible Students, as Jehovah’s Witnesses were then called, pointed to that date as the year when the Gentile Times would end. What outstanding proof that is that they were true servants of Jehovah! Yet, like first-century servants of God, they also had some wrong expectations. For example, they expected that the full number of anointed Christians would be raised to heaven by October 1914. They also thought that the war that started in 1914 would lead directly on to the end of Satan’s world.

WT has always blamed the rank and file for failures. Besides, false predictions made by the Watchtower only "seem" to be a mistake.

w81 12/1 p. 27 par. 2 The Path of the Righteous Does Keep Getting Brighter

2 However, it may have seemed to some as though that path has not always gone straight forward. At times explanations given by Jehovah’s visible organization have shown adjustments, seemingly to previous points of view. But this has not actually been the case. This might be compared to what is known in navigational circles as "tacking." By maneuvering the sails the sailors can cause a ship to go from right to left, back and forth, but all the time making progress toward their destination in spite of contrary winds. And that goal in view for Jehovah’s servants is the "new heavens and a new earth" of God’s promise.—2 Pet. 3:13.

Some had wrong expectations my foot !!!!!

It was the WTS that promoted these expectations

Yea, they're good at overlappin' one lie on top of another

Even those who still attend got proof right under thier nostrils, right now

about the " Generation " of 1914 that would live to see the end

Straight from the Brooklyn Dodgers, who try and duck and dodge

    from there own lies

All they gotta do is look in the Reasoning from the Scriptures book

and they ain't talkin' bout a generation that " Overlaps "

" Before the last members of the generation that was alive in 1914 will have passed off the scene, all the things foretold will occur, including the great tribulation in which the present wicked world will end. "____Reasoning From the scriptures book page 97

Tell us Oh Great Governin' Bod, exactly WHO caused these false expectations ?????????

before the 1975 failure, here's what WT promoted:

1974 "Yes, the end of this system is so very near! Is that not reason to increase our activity?...Reports are heard of brothers selling their homes and property and planning to finish out the rest of their days in this old system in the pioneer service. Certainly this is a fine way to spend the short time remaining before the wicked world's end." (Kingdom Ministry, May 1974, p. 3)

After 1975 failed, suddenly WT didn't really say what they said in 1974:

1976: "It may be that some who have been serving God have planned their lives according to a mistaken view of just what was to happen on a certain date or in a certain year. They may have, for this reason, put off or neglected things that they otherwise would have cared for. But they have missed the point of the Bibles warnings concerning the end of this system of things, thinking that Bible chronology reveals the specific date." (Watchtower, July 15, 1976, p. 440)

1979: Partly because of eagerness to be alive when Jesus Christ reveals himself in glory, there have been believers throughout the centuries who began looking for a particular period or a year for the windup of the ungodly system of things. this has happened right down to these "last days." Since certain expectations were not realized, many stumbled and returned to the ways of the world. In fulfillment of Peter's words, even today we hear the voice of ridiculers. (2 Peter 3:3,4) (Choosing The Best Way Of Life; 1979; p. 169)

"But some of their time calculations and the expectations that they associated with these gave rise to serious disappointments. Following 1925, meeting attendance dropped dramatically…. Again, in 1975, there was disappointment when expectations regarding the start of the Millennium failed to materialize. As a result, some withdrew from the organization…. Although these tests resulted in a siftingothers remained firm. Why?… ‘Those who had set their confidence in Jehovah remained steadfast and continued their preaching activity.’"—Jehovah’s Witnesses — Proclaimers of God’s Kingdom, Watchtower Bible & Tract Society, 1993, p. 633

    Isn't "sifting" great?

WT demands that JWs believe false prophecies and build their lives around specific dates. Then when WT's prophecies fail, its attitude toward those who recognize false prophecies and leave WT, is, 'good riddance!' We have no tolerance for people who get disappointed when "god's sole channel of communication' promotes false prophecies.

In other words, shame on you (rank and file JWs) for actually believing us (WT)!

Oh, by the way, here's our latest prediction you have to believe....
