Little_socrates, evolution makes NO attempt to explain how life originated. That's like looking at the theory of gravity to explain climate change.

LS - Have you read about the latest progress in abiogenesis?

Genesis does a lousy job of explaining how life originated, too.

It doesn't even attempt to address that issue. Of course it doesn't do a good job of it.
People see evidence of creation and then assume it is a done deal, no need for a creater. Thank your for pointed out that is a much more difficult question than that. Even if you believe in evolution there still can be room for faith.

Just reading up now on some of the newest stuff. Interesting to say the least. However everything I see so far is very experimental/theoretical at the moment. Very fun for some mental masturbation but not much good otherwise.
Yes science can understand some of the building blocks however when it comes to whole organisms, even the simplist form of life you can fathom is still so unimaginably complext that it just boggles my mind.
I will though keep reading if I find good stuff.

Actually it has gone way beyond that. There is some real hard science on the origins of metabolism and replication.

I'm interested Cofty. Do you have a link?
